On June 14, 2008, URI Foundation Kenya
was officially launched in Nairobi,
Kenya, at
Village Market Hall, a venue owned by URI member, Mr. Hamed Ehsani, and
provided free of charge. There were approximately 100 participants from different
faith communities and organizations. The High Commissioner of India was
present, as was the Secretary-General for Africa
of the World Conference on Religion and Peace. Members of the
Inter-religious Council of Kenya were also present, as well as other invited
guests from different walks of life.
URI
has been operating in Kenya
for many years. Recently, however, URI obtained its legal registration
with the government of Kenya
for the first time. Therefore, what took place is the introduction of the
newly registered organization, URI Foundation, Kenya to the public. The
main aim of this event was to officially introduce URI Foundation Kenya
to other organizations within the country and the region, to establish
partnerships with other like-minded organizations and individuals. In
addition, the aim was to identify potential supporters for the cause of URI's
activities in Kenya.
The
program began with registration and then an introduction by the master of
ceremonies, Jeremy Kitonga, who is a member of the board of trustees of the URI
Foundation Kenya. This
was followed by Buddhist, Bahai, Muslim, Zoroastrian, Sikh, Christian, and
Brahma Kumaris prayers, and concluded with a poem read by Mrs.Nyanlwa. Afterward,
Ms. Rattan K. Channa, the newly elected Global Trustee member from Africa and Chairperson of URI Kenya, made a remark about
URI and Cooperation Circle
work and invited people to join or form their own CCs.
