Asia Daily Prayers
A selection of prayers representing Cooperation Circles in Asia (Day 327 to 285, Day 275 to 256, Day 199 to 179, Day 41 to 21).
Day 327:
Today we will support the only CC in the Community Directory that has not received our tender spiritual visit: Buddha Heart World Headquarters CC in Taiwan.
Buddha Heart World Headquarters is our only CC in this country. The purpose of this CC is: "To promote charity and do research on solutions for the problems of poverty, disease, death and war, while personally doing physical and spiritual practice at the same time. To bolster people's understanding of the world's and cosmo's reality, so as to reduce people's greed, disputes, robbery and wars. As such, a world full of love and concern will be realized and world peace will come true."
This is what we know about this CC: "Buddha Heart World Headquarters is a well established organization (with 40 full time staff and 40,000 volunteers). This organization provides service work and spiritual education. We believe that "more uniting can bring more good things to people." They are involved in public welfare work such as environmental protection, social service, peace work, and enriching cultural understandings. Articles by Venerable Master Dari include, "Praying for World Peace" and "Cooperation of Religions for World Peace."
Last but not least in this row of daily prayer/ meditation we can see our dream come true in the purpose of this Cooperation Circle: a world full of love and concern. It is clear that they are not waiting this to happen but working hard to make it happen. Let us support the very many initiatives they are developing in prayer / meditation
May members of Buddha Heart World Headquaters CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!
May Peace prevail in Taiwan!
May Peace prevail in Asia!
May Peace prevail on Earth!

Day 326:
Today we will support the second CC in Sri Lanka: To Provide Relief for Families of Drug Addicts - CC.
This Cooperation Circle has a very clear purpose: “To provide relief for families of drug addicts. Community empowerment.”
Within families the relation is such that, what one celebrates is joy for everyone and pain of one hurts all. When there is a problematic situation in the family all of the members suffer and need to be strong to support each other. It is great that this Cooperation Circle is offering help and relief to families in difficulties and empowering the community to deal with problems.
May members of To provide Relief for Families of Drug Addicts CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!
May Peace prevail in Sri Lanka!
May Peace prevail in Asia!
May Peace prevail in the families!
May Peace prevail on Earth!

Day 325:
We pass to Sri Lanka to support Sarvodaya Shanti Sena CC.
This Cooperation Circle was formed: "To promote non-violent action, training and education in peace efforts and to offer a wide range of activities to bring out harmonious integration of all communities and religious faiths."
This is what members of this CC share with us: "The war that has taken an enormous toll on Sri Lanka and its people during the past 20 years has been concluded with a cease fire. The political agreement is very fragile and must be strengthened by building public opinion, which is among the many tasks facing Sarvodaya Shanti Sena, which has widespread coverage throughout the country. We want to bring together the youth, in particular, through peace dialogues. Inter-cultural cooperation among selected leaders is being tried out by providing opportunities for youth from the North and East to get together to develop mutual goodwill and understanding at the village level. At the close of one gathering of North and South youth, a Tamil girl said "We have known Singhala soldiers only as enemies and not known them as civilians. Now we realize that we are all human beings with similar aspirations. Even though we are poor, we brought thirty bags of rice as a token of goodwill." Such experiences help to bridge the gap."
It is easy to divide and difficult to gather. This is what makes the work of this CC admirable. Gathering demands patience: to heal the wounds, to build trust, to open for understanding, to develop goodwill. When this takes place gaps disappear. Let us support this effort.
May members of Sarvodaya Shanti Sena CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!
May Peace prevail in Sri Lanka!
May Peace prevail in Asia!
May Peace prevail on Earth!

Day 324:
Close to the end of our daily prayer / meditation for CCs in 2007 Community Directory we will support our last CC from Pakistan Women and Children Development Program CC.
This Cooperation Circle was created with the purpose of: “Education, health services, women and children's development, and creating an inter-religious environment.”
This is what members share with us: “Our work started in 1998 long before we became a CC. We work with women and children and with different religious leaders. In 1999 we started educational communities in Sargodha and Faisalabad, Pakistan. Our religious diversity is Christian Catholic, Islam Sunni, Islam Shi'i, and Hindu. We continue to develop grassroots programs to help women and children develop livelihoods and receive education.”
We are all vulnerable and we all need to be supported by the community but when looking into the future we cannot deny the need to create a space where women and children can develop in health and education. It is good that this CC has identified how best to promote this development. Let us support their great work.
May members of Women and Children Development Program CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!
May Peace prevail in Pakistan!
May Peace prevail in Asia!
May Peace prevail on Earth!

Day 323:
While we join Marites Africa in her prayer for all of us in URI we will support Travel Agents CC Pakistan today.
Members of this Cooperation Circle share with us: “We have many purposes, but the main one is to promote interfaith unity and peace among different religions as well as between different sects of Muslims.”
And this is what they tell us about what they do to acchieve their purposes: “We actively promote interfaith dialogue, peace and harmony through our encounters with people as travel agents. We come across hundreds of people every day while dealing with air line tickets and travel plans of people going all around the world and we organize our own events to promote interfaith harmony.”
If our preamble, purpose and principles reach every corner of the world, enduring and daily interfaith cooperation to end religiously motivated violence and create cultures of Peace, Justice and Healing for the Earth and all living beings will be a reality. I found fantastic that travel agents have joined URI and are promoting interfaith unity and peace through their own channels of communication. I am sure they can make a change. Let us support them wholeheartedly.
May members of Travel Agents CC Pakistan fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!
May Peace prevail in Pakistan!
May Peace prevail in Asia!
May Peace prevail on Earth!

Day 322:
Let’s gather our spiritual strength today to support Toba Tek Singh CC
This Cooperation Circle is working: “To promote interfaith harmony at the grassroots level.”
This is we learn about their activities in the Community Directory: “In the past year we focused on two things: school drop-outs and youth. We organized a poster and essay competition in ten schools. Three hundred children drew posters and wrote essays on peace and interfaith cooperation.
We also organized tree planting and matches of a local sport called "Kabaeli" for school drop-outs. For youth, we formed a study circle to focus on social and economic matters and prepared an interactive theater piece on peacebuilding and interfaith cooperation that was performed in ten communities. All these activities included Christians and Muslims working together”.
I think we are gifted people. Being part of URI we learn about wonderful things happening in the world. Christian and Muslim grassroots using their creativity to inspire and help children and youth is hope giving, isnt it? I invite you to pray / meditate to support their work:
May members of Toba Tek Singh CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

We also planted many Peace poles in different Schools and especially during an International event held at Abbotabad. We dedicated Peace Pole in the loving memory of earthquake Victims on 8th October 2006.
All events were memorable interfaith gatherings. The Government of Pakistan invites our Cc to all interfaith events such as the one held in the Governor’s house, the Chief Minister’s House and local body Government. We hold Interfaith Peace Harmony Seminars and Interfaith awareness and Celebrated the International Peace Day on 21st September 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 in Great zeal and spirit of love and peace, including programs such as Interfaith Children Peace walk, Interfaith Seminars, Interfaith Peace walk to Waga Border (Indo-Pak Border) offered Peace Prayers and Children sung Peace songs. Interfaith Peace Mushra (Poetry recitation) Peace Candle Rallies. We also promote the Prayer “May Peace prevail on earth” in the interfaith events. We also celebrated special days as Hiroshima Day, Love Day etc. every year. During the past year we were able to reach thousands of children, women and young men and women. We raised and expressed our voices for World Peace & harmony. We condemned wars and terrorism. We have always invited other organizations to our events and we are on working to help create a new CC in Pakistan to achieve the goal and the vision of URI Pakistan”.
It is wonderful to see CCs in action and celebrate in prayer / meditation that they achieve their goals. We read in the last line of the description of activities of this CC that they are working to help create new CCs in Pakistan. I want you to know that six groups from Pakistan were approved for membership on October 10th, 2007 and that we have some others to be reviewed during our next CC approval meeting. Also our website ( <http://www.uri.org/CC_News/Asia/Eid%26Xmas.html>
http://www.uri.org/CC_News/Asia/Eid%26Xmas.html ) brings a description and photos of a marvelous event organized by Tehreek Taraque Insaniate CC and Peace and Development Foundation CC (a new CC). Day 320:
I invite you to join in prayer/ meditation to support Seeds of Peace CC
This Cooperation Circle was created “to promote harmonious coexistence among religions and to work for international peace, harmony and cooperation”.
This is what members share with us about their work: “Our CC is sowing the “Seeds of Peace” among different religions, by organizing inter-religious activities for dialogue and understanding. We are also working in Health and Education sector and we hold seminars, workshops and conferences on diverse issues. We are also working on emancipation of women and children to become peace builders in the society.
Our most memorable activities so far are Peace Day Celebrations and our hopes and plans are to provide a permanent forum for inter-religious dialogue and by doing so supporting a culture of peace, social justice and healing”.
The figure of sowing seeds of peace is really representative of interfaith work. Especially because it demands effort, patience, respect, observation capacity, generosity.
Let us pray / meditate that Seeds of Peace members grow in these virtues so that they can see the fruits of their sowing work.
May members of Seeds of Peace CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

Day 319:
Today we will pray/ meditate to support Peace Group of Journalists (formerly Press for Peace URI CC).

This is what we learn about their work: “We have organized functions and specially a peace walk on May 4th 2005 in Muzaffarabad”.
Pens are powerful tools! Journalists can use pens to touch the hearts of a lot of people. Some readers will accept or even follow what they read as truth without much reflection. This makes pens also dangerous. We are happy these journalists in Pakistan have chosen to use pens to promote peace and harmony. Let us support them and pray/ meditate so that they can extend this practice to many more journalists.
May members of Peace Group of Journalists fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!
May Peace prevail in Kashmir!

And this is what we learn of their activities: “We are reaching out to the Southern Punjab to work for interfaith harmony and to work against religiously motivated violence. We will take the vision of the URI to three more districts: Muzaffar Garh, Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajan Pur”.
Yesterday we reflected about believers of diverse religions and the need that we see each other as brothers and sisters and that we cooperate for the wellbeing of humanity. An outcome of this fraternal cooperation is the end of religiously motivated violence. URI is in this line and it is clearly put into practice by this Cooperation Circle. It is great that they are also trying to extend this practice in other districts.Let us support their work with our prayer/ meditation

Day 316:
On this beautiful morning in Buenos Aires I invite you to pray / meditate to support Pakistan Council for Social Welfare & Human Rights CC
Members of this Cooperation Circle have gathered to help acchieve: “Justice and peace, interreligious harmony, human rights, promotion of interreligous dialogue”.

We also enjoyed accredited status with UN General Assembly special session on children 2002, for durable peace, equality, social justice and sustainable human development.
We believe in inter-religious and cultural harmony at the grassroots level.
In the past three years, this NGO has had the honor to give services to 175,000 persons in various projects”.
How much energy do our CCs offer to the world! Our CCs have a self organizing nature that gives members freedom to choose what they want to do but an Agenda for Action is offered as guidance for URI activities. The presentation of this agenda reads in our Charter: Inspired by a Javanese phrase “ Memayu Hayuning Bawano” which means “to work for safety, hapiness and welfare of all life” the URI will serve as a moral voice and a source of action grounded in contemplation in each of the following areas… We read that Pakistan Council for Social Welfare and Human Rights is clearly working in this direction specially upholding action three: Rights and Responsibilities. It is really important that we see ourselves and all human beings as worthy of dignity! I am thankful that members of this CC are not only seeing this but letting others know. Please join me in prayer/ meditation

I respectfully smiled when I read this description for the first time. I am proud of them and of our organization that welcomes children as full participants. It is true that children can do a lot for the betterment of humanity and really necessary that they grow supporting each other in deep values. Let us make them feel supported and accompanied with our prayer/ meditation
May members of Pakistan Children and Youth CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

Members of this Cooperation Circle have gathered: “To work for peace and harmony among the believers of God and to lessen the hatred among the society.”
Hatred is the origin of many of the pains and suffering in the world. Believers of God trust that everything comes from God´s love and that we were created to love. Being conscious and sharing about this is a good start to end religiously motivated violence. There is a lot religions can do for peace in the world. Let us support this initiative in Gujrat:
May members of National Muslim- Christian Dialogue CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!
May Peace prevail in Gujrat!
May Peace prevail in Pakistan!
May Peace prevail in Asia!

Day 312:
Something wonderful about prayers/ meditation is that there is no limit. We can cover the world with our prayers/ meditation we can bless all living beings. So let us follow Beverly Britton in her invitation to pray for our suffering brothers and sisters in China and Burma suffering at the time we gather spiritually to support National Muslim-Christian Fellowship Gujrat CC.
This Cooperation Circle was founded looking forward the: “Establishment of durable peace.”
Fellowship defines a close and open relationship. When there is fellowship among people of different faiths there is a space for dialogue and cooperation. Let us pray/ meditate for them in the hope they will help build the durable peace they desire.
May members of National Muslim – Christian Fellowship Gujrat fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!
May Peace prevail in Gujrat!

*********************************************************************
Day 311:
I invite you to start this week of prayers/ meditation supporting Lahore - Pakistan CC.
This Cooperation Circle was created: “To promote cultures of peace and justice.”
This is how members decribe their Activities: “We were the main organizer of the World Children's Day in November 2002 in which over 300 Muslim and Christian children took part along with their parents. In December 2002 Christmas dinner was hosted both by Christians and Muslims to celebrate the birth of Christ. In January 2003 on the death of our founding member, Maulana Dr. Muhammad Abdul Qadir Azad, a joint Memorial Service was arranged in which Muslims, Christians, Hindus, Parsis, Bahais and Sikhs offered prayers for the eternal rest of Maulana Azad. It was for the very first time in the history of Pakistan that a joint memorial service was arranged under one roof. In February, 2003 our CC was the major partner in planting a Peace Pole at the Pastoral Institute in Multan. During the past year we have been able to reach over 500 children and hundreds of young men and women and reports of our activities reached out to millions of people through electronic and press media all over the world. We raised voices for world peace and expressed our strong opposition to war through several peace rallies and an anti-war procession. Our URI CC is playing a very significant role in promoting peace in Pakistan.”
In order to create cultures of peace, justice and healing we need to develop our capacity to listen and our confidence to speak up. It is sometimes necessary to raise our voices to call for peace, justice and healing. When this voice is plural and consensuated by different religious leaders, groups of people, organizations it is stronger. I am sure this CC is playing a significant role in Pakistan. Let us support their work
May members of Lahore- Pakistan CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!
May Peace prevail in Pakistan!
May Peace prevail in Asia!
May Peace prevail on Earth!
*********************************************************************
Day 310:
On this new day we gather to support Karachi URI CC.
The purpose of this Cooperation Circle: “Interfaith peace and harmony.”
This is what we learn about their background and work in the Community Directory: “We were established in 1999 at a meeting of members from the various religions present in Karachi City. Allama Abulfateh G.R. Chishti presided over this meeting. Muslims, Christians and Hindus were the first members of this group; later its branches were extended to all five provinces of the city (East, West, Centre, South and Malir) through which Sikhs, Theosophists and Zoroastrians also joined. We actively worked to establish religious peace and tolerance among the different sects within a religion. We get together every three months.
To achieve URI's purpose, we organize and participate in inter-religious functions to promote tolerance and daily interfaith cooperation.”
From what we read we understand that this Cooperation Circle has developed remarkable interfaith as well as intrafaith work. It is also noticeable that they have extended physically and in diversity through the years. Let us offer them our spiritual support
May members of Karachi URI CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!
May Peace prevail in Karachi!
May Peace prevail in Pakistan!
May Peace prevail in Asia!
May Peace prevail on Earth!

Today we will support Journalists Information Bureau Pakistan CC with our prayer/ meditation.
This Cooperation Circle was created with the intention: “To promote the noble cause of peace, harmony and reconciliation among believers of different religions. Our mode of promoting these will be through media.”

We are working to carry out the aims and of the URI and play a positive and constructive role in promoting peace and interfaith harmony through the powerful tool of the media.”
We will surely agree with members of this CC: Media is a very powerful tool.
Media reaches and affects the opinion and lives of a lot of people . It is really important that media communicators are conscious of their possibilities to build peace, harmony and reconciliation. We are deeply moved and honored that these 275 journalists have joined in the pursuit of this noble cause.
Let us support them in their needed work.
May members of Journalists Information Bureau CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

Day 308:
I invite you to pray / meditate to support IBTEDA Foundation CC.
The purpose of this Cooperation Circle is: “To promote interfaith harmony, peace, justice, and understanding in the world. To respect equality among all religions.”
This is what we learn about their work in the Community Directory: “IBTEDA Foundation supports a strong network of about 700 schools all over Pakistan. We organize programs, seminars, and peace rallies that give messages of peace and good will among religions and cultures. We have educated thousands of students for peace education. We host parties at Christmas, Eid al Fitr as well as breaking of the Muslim Fast, all as gestures of interfaith, harmony, and peace.”
The United Nations Secretary-General expressed “We will have time to reach the Millennium Development Goals – worldwide and in most, or even all, individual countries – but only if we break with business as usual. We cannot win overnight. Success will require sustained action across the entire decade between now and the deadline. It takes time to train the teachers, nurses and engineers; to build the roads, schools and hospitals; to grow the small and large businesses able to create the jobs and income needed. So we must start now. And we must more than double global development assistance over the next few years. Nothing less will help to achieve the Goals”. Goal 2 is to ensure that all boys and girls complete a full course of primary schooling and peace education must of course be included in this search of equality. Let us support with our prayers/ meditation the hard work of this CC offering children this wonderful gift: education.
May members of IBTEDA Foundation CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!
May Peace prevail in Pakistan!
May Peace prevail in Asia!
May Peace prevail on Earth!

Day 307:
Today we will join in prayer/ meditation to support Flowers of Peace Women's CC.
The purpose of this CC is: “To promote interfaith harmony and peace among women of different religions, especially among Christians and Muslims. To help Muslim and Christian school children to receive a better education and by providing free tuition and books. To help financially poor and deserving Muslim and Christian women at the time of their wedding. To celebrate together religious feast, national and international days such as Women's Day, Mother's Day, International Children's Day, World Peace Day, etc.”
This is what we read about this CC in the Community Directory: “Flowers for Peace CC currently includes 12 women. We are teachers, social workers, human rights activists and housewives. We build bridges between Muslims and Christians, provide free tuitions to Muslim and Christian students and help poor young women financially at the time of their weddings. We celebrate World Peace Day and Women's Day as well as Muslim and Christian feasts together. We are proud to be able to contribute for the betterment of humanity, especially for the women and school children. We intend to distribute "flowers of peace and good will" not only in Pakistan but through out the world so that our fragrance will freshen the whole atmosphere all around the world.”
Close to Mother´s Day in many parts of the world we receive this call to percieve women as fragrance that will freshen the whole atmosphere around the world. Of course women´s work is complementary to men´s work and both are important in creating cultures of peace, justice and healing but it is true that characteristics that identify women make them excellent bridge builders in the families, communities and societies. Let ´s appreciate and support this excellent work.
May members of Flowers of Peace Women´s CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!
May Peace prevail in Pakistan!
May Peace prevail in Asia!
May Peace prevail on Earth!
*********************************************************************
Day 306:
I ask that we have our brothers and sisters in Burma in our prayers/ meditation today while we support Education for Peace CC.

In an introductory video of URI Masanko Banda says that we have to unlearn violence and discrimination. There might not be expressed formal education for violence but the reality shows that there are a lot of messages in our societies leading us to violence. I am happy this CC has committed to educate for peace using formal and informal opportunities. Let us support this work.
May members of Education for Peace CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!
May Peace prevail in Pakistan!
May Peace prevail in Asia!
May Peace prevail on Earth!
*********************************************************************
Day 305:
Let us begin this new week supporting Civil Society CC.
This Cooperation Circle develops its work in Pakistan with this purpose: “The purpose of our CC is to promote a homey atmosphere for people of all religions with discrimination towards none. We will work for social harmony and respect all religions and their beliefs. We will work especially with university and college students.”
This is what members of this CC share with us in their description of activities: “We have many different organizations represented in our CC, Amnesty International, Pakistan Minorities Alliance, Multan Bar Association, to name a few. We participate in various activities to promote interfaith harmony. For example, the planting of the Peace Pole, and a peace walk on International Peace day. Thousands of people from different walks of life took part in this walk.”
The impact of our work grows if we can include others. There is a loss of energy and opportunities if different organizations pursuing common goals work separetedly. This CC has been able to gather different organizations to promote interfaith harmony and the result is great participation and diversity. Let us collaborate with them with our prayer/ meditation.
May members of Civil Society CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!
May Peace prevail in Pakistan!
May Peace prevail in Asia!
May Peace prevail on Earth!

Day 304:
On this Saturday we will support Bhatta Brick Kilns Welfare Organization CC.

Members share this with us in the Community Directory: “Our CC focuses on Bhatta Labourer, and especially Gypsies in Lahore, Pakistan. In the past year, we have accomplished many goals. We have arranged several conventions and crusades to unite people from different faiths and indigenous traditions. We also organized several rallies for peace and solidarity. In addition, we are arranged free medical camps of two or three days, where medicines were provided to people who cannot usually afford them. We have also been involved in writing petitions for increased wages for Bhatta Labourers.”
Our principle 14 says that CCs have the right to organize in any manner, at any scale, in any area, and around any issue or activity which is relevant and consistent with the Preamble, Purpose and Principles. This Cooperation Circle has chosen a very special one: securing rights for those who are deprived of all. There is a great generosity and coherence with our Charter in this work.
Let us support it wholeheartedly.
May members of Bhatta Brick Kilns Welfare Organization CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!
May Peace prevail in Lahore!

This is what we learn about their work in the Community Directory: “All Faiths Harmony CC organizes programs at Christmas, Easter and Breaking of the Fast for Muslims, International Women's Day, and Pakistan Independence Day on August 14. We host student study camps, youth awareness programs and social awareness programs. Through these activities Muslims and Christians have joined and worked together for peace and harmony. More than 200 Christians and Muslim participated in these programs last year, including teachers, youth, journalists, lawyers, human rights activists, political personalities and also people in civil administration. At one event, about a dozen persons spoke about interfaith peace and harmony.”
Celebrations are intimate and important moments in our family and community life. We only share them when there is trust and a peaceful relation. The fact that this CC can organize so wonderful activities proves that they are already in good shape to acchieve their purpose. Let us support their vitality.
May members of All Faiths Harmony CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace !
May Peace prevail in Pakistan!
May Peace prevail in Asia!
May Peace prevail on Earth!

Day 302:
I ask you that we pass from Nepal to Pakistan with our prayer/ meditation to support Allama Iqbal CC.
The purpose of this Cooperation Circle is: “To promote Peace and Religious Harmony through education in schools and other education institutions.”
This is what members share with us about their activities: “Our highlights include Free medical camps, Educational Programs, Sports and Cultural Activities in the District Sialkot.”
The term ‘education’ comes from the Latin term educare, educatus meaning ‘bring up, rear’; linked to educere meaning ‘to lead forth’ or ‘bring out’. Love, Peace, Harmony are part of us but we don’t always allow them to manifest in what we do, in what we say. If we take time to educate our childhood and youth, these inner treasures will be shared. Education in its various forms is a gift to societies. Let us support this CC committed to this wonderful action.
May members of Allama Iqbal CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!
May Peace prevail in District Sialkot!
May Peace prevail in Pakistan!
May Peace prevail in Asia!
May Peace prevail on Earth!

Day 301:
Today we pass from Korea to Nepal. We will join in prayer/ meditation to support Shanti Shanti Sangh CC
The purpose of this Cooperation Circle is: “Spiritual harmony, peace, and the development from a spiritual foundation.”
This is what members share with us: “Shanti Shanti Sangh, the first Cooperation Circle in Nepal, was formed around the goals of peace, service and interfaith exchange. Our premise is that in order to create a reconciliation that brings reform and social equity, the gulf between the comfortable city and the very poor countryside needs to be bridged. Our primary contribution towards these ends has included the design, production and distribution of peace and reform stickers and posters in Nepali, with slogans such as “No More Violence,” “Peace is my Responsibility” and “Together We Can Make Changes to Benefit the People.” One of the most creative ways that we have raised money for the production of these materials has been to hold a Volkswagen and Vintage Car Rally for Peace. In order to articulate civil society's voice for peace and reform, we have held a rally, written and published letters promoting a non-violent solution to our conflict, and held a public forum on the ways that the Hindu, Buddhist, Christian and Muslim religions can support peace and conflict resolution.
We found guidance in the following beliefs: Compassion and wisdom lead to forgiveness and reconciliation. Selflessness and honesty can make for fruitful dialogue. Social transformation for social equity need the miracles of our effort and commitment. Worship and celebration of the divine can revive our social effort and commitment. We meet several times a month to share our ideas about the situation and our activities.”
Our principle one says: The URI is a bridge building organization, not a religion. This CC is building bridges among people in the city and people in the countrysife, the needy and those who are comfortable, the different creeds and they do it in a very creative way guided by strong values. Let us show them our gratitude and apprecaition in prayer/ meditation.
May members of Shanti Shanti Sangh CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!
May Peace prevail in Nepal!
May Peace prevail in Asia!
May Peace prevail on Earth!

Internet is a great tool of communication today. It is important that interfaith dialogue and cooperation benefits from its existence. I don’t think we could have created URI without internet. Through internet we can share our principles, our knowledge, show appreciation, promote respect. We can even offer mutual spiritual support as we do every day through our list.
Let us take the time to support this CC using internet to share URI with the world.
May members of URI Korea Cyber Society CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

This is what members share with us about their activities: “ We are located in Seoul and serve as the base of URI Korea MCC, which consists of ten CCs in Korea. One of our activities is a Spiritual Pilgrimage, which provides opportunities to learn about and experience various religious meditation practices. Last year we gathered about thirty people from different religious backgrounds, including Buddhism, Christianity, Confucianism, and indigenous traditions. We met at a Buddhist monastery, every Monday evening for six months (April, May, June, September, October and November) to take meditation lessons. Each month we invited a different meditation master from different religious traditions. We learned how to practice and sat together for meditation. It was a very unique experience for all to know how various spiritualities have been cultivated and preserved”.
Our coming Global Assembly to be held in India has a motto: Pilgrims of Peace: Many Paths, One Purpose. It makes clear, as this CC does, that we are walking together, that it is necessary that we recognize our diversity at the time we recognize our common goal. In this path, there is a lot to learn from each other. Members of this CC have proved this in sharing their practices. Let us support their work.
May members of URI Korea CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

Let us take a deep breath. It was April 23rd when we started with our daily prayer/ meditation last year. We have been spiritually connected in support of CCs around the world for a whole year skipping Sundays only!!!! Thank you!!!!
Today we will support URI Gwangju/Jeonnam CC.
This Cooperation Circle was created “To realize the URI spirit in Gwangju.”

In 2005 we had our Global Council meeting in Korea. It was wonderful to have the taste of the interfaith work there. We learnt about the joys and pains of the people. We made both feelings ours in such a way that we experienced the need to stand for peace and reconciliation in support of existing peacebuilding initiatives. It is good that we accompany that action in the past with our prayers/ meditation for this CC today.
May members of URI Gwangju/ Jeonnam CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!
May Peace prevail in Korea!
May Peace prevail in Asia!
May Peace prevail on Earth!

This is what they explain in the Community Directory: “We have focused on inter-religious dialogue among different religions.”
Dialogue has proved to be an efficient form of communication. To have real dialogue it is necessary that both parts have reflected on what they want to communicate and the importance of what they will listen. There is a lot of virtue in dialogue. Let us support this CC in their effort.
May members of URI Daejeon/ Chungman CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!
May Peace prevail in Korea!

This Cooperation Circle was created “To build harmony and cooperation of religions in Korea.”

One of our annual projects is reading the classical scriptures of world religions. We have a monthly class to learn various religious texts. On the third Wednesday evening of each month, we have a lecture on the classical books of world religions and talk about similarity and harmony among different religions. We also issued “Pureun-sori” a monthly newsletter to share our thoughts and report on interfaith events.”
There is a lot of wisdom in religious texts. For some time this wisdom was only passed to the community that followed them. It is a great gift that these texts are shared and studied by a larger number people regardless their religious backgrounds. This will deepen common universal values and help understand differences in practices and beliefs. Let us support this work.
May members of URI Daegu/ Gyeongbuk CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

Sometimes, we have a tea party to appreciate nature and the culture of peace.”
It is great to experience peace, isnt it? Most of the times this experience takes place in simple situations of encounter in respect and appreciation as the one shared by this CC, an enrichening tea party.

Many international conferences were held in different parts of India. WFIRC functions as a hub of all interfaith activities among various related organisations."
Most religions and cultures have deep respect and apppreciation for their elders and value the wisdom that comes from their experience. I think this should also be done in intereligious work too. There are many people, organizations that prepared what interfaith cooperation is today. I am happy that we can support an organization that has celebrated its silver jubilee and continues nurturing our work.
May members of World Fellowship of Interreligious Councils CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!
May Peace prevail in Bombay!

We wish to join in the pursuit of Peace and support the purpose of URI and accept the rights and responsibilities of the membership of URI.”
Please read about the activities they develop to accompany dear declaration with concrete action: “Ms. Kety Jokhi has been a social activist and as such has done social work responding to the needs in poor communities; one example is putting lights in the roads so that people could see where they were going. The education of poor children continues to be a deep passion and giving free educational books to children is central to the work of this cc. Doing this social work together has helped to galvanize the will of many other women.”
The description of activities of this CC is another confirmation that working for common good is a way to peace and harmony. I feel the work of this CC is giving outer and inner Light to their people. Let us support this women’s will.

Upasana offers youth a talent club and a debate club. For school/college children Upasana offers camps, interfaith prayer services and value-education programs. It organizes and takes part in interfaith peace/harmony initiatives of the World Fellowship of Inter-Religious Councils (WFIRC), of which Fr. Albert is secretary-general. Other programs include Interfaith Festivals and Celebration of festivals.”
From what we read we can percieve dynamism. Dynamism that led the centre to adapt to new needs and dynamism of a centre that opens a space for youth proposing a variety of activities that can make them feel at home. Let us support their energy:
May members of Upsana CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

We read in the Community Directory that: “The group is formed by an excellent group of academicians and Government Employees. Representatives of this CC attended the World Fellowship Meeting at Cochin. World Fellowship of Inter-Religious Councils is the oldest CC in the South, led by Fr. Albert.”
When people coming from different segments in society come together with a common purpose the impact is greater. At least in my country academicians and government employees belong to different “worlds”. I think their partnership deserves our recognition and support. Let us pray/ meditate:

Let us join in prayer / meditation to support Swami Ganganand JI Bhuriwale URI CC.
This Cooperation Circle was formed: “To create an environment where every one lives in complete peace and harmony with each other.”

Our main activities include working for orphaned children, conducting special games for mentally retarded children; conducting all religion conferences at Dham Talwandi Khurd and conducting rural games at Village Talwandi Khurd . A SGB Children's Home is being run for orphaned and abandoned children where they are brought up in a family environment. Free Ayurvedic medical dispensary runs every Sunday for poor patients for the last 22 years. Marriages for poor girls are arranged.”
Yesterday, Sally Mahe our Director of the Organizational Deparment shared with us a piece she had prepared to introduce URI. When referring to Cooperation Circles she wrote: “URI is an organization that believes that people’s passion and initiative, when organized, connected and amplified, create a sustaining global force for good. Initiatives taken in self–organizing local interfaith groups called Cooperation Circles lead to myriad diverse actions. Each Circle’s commitment is grounded in core values stated in URI’s Preamble, Purpose and Principles.”
I read the description of activities of this CC in the light of this paragraph and felt deeply how true it is that our Cooperation Circles are of a unique quality. Creating a peaceful and harmonious environment through working with orphaned, mentally retarded, abandoned and poor children is a clear force for good. Let us support it:

Day 275:
Let´s get spiritually together this weekend to support Sri Garib Dass CC. This Cooperation Circle aims: “To create an environment where every one lives in complete peace and harmony with each other.”
This is what CC members share with us: “We have been working as a loosely knit social group until now. Our main area of interest has been education for rural children, care for the elderly, and preservation of the environment. Our members work as a group in close association with other groups and we work for the rural children in and around Rajpura town. A non-formal school was opened where more than 100 children came to study. It was hugely popular with the parents and students. We were happy to give all the necessary inputs to students. The students belonged to all segments of the society.”
Usually children are in peace and harmony when they are together at play. They recognize no boundary.Language, social or economical position, color of skin, religious affiliation do not represent a limitation to share fun. As they grow up and probably because the influence of adults, they start discriminating, having a judgemental attitute towards others. If they can learn violence they can unlearn it. If they can learn violence they can learn to live in peace, harmony and care for the environment.
Let us support the great work of this CC:
May members of Sri Garib Dass CC fulfill their aspirations nad live in Peace!
May Peace prevail in Rajpura town!
May Peace prevail in Patiala!

The purpose of this Cooperation circle is: “To promote interfaith cooperation and harmony in Bangalore.”
We don’t have more information in the Community Directory about the activities Social Team CC is developing but I read in internet that one of the major religions of Bangalore is Hinduism and that a number of other religions are also practiced in the city. It also says that with time, and because of the large influx of working professionals from other parts of India as well as abroad, Bangalore is becoming like a melting pot of various religions. In this reality interfaith Cooperation will probably help create the harmonious atmosphere desired by cc members. Let us support their work:
May members of Social Team CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

Malerkotla is significant region in India because it is an area where Muslims stayed during and after partition due to the blessing and leadership of a guru. We have been collectively working for the development of education among rural children.”
Our principle 14 says: “We have the right to organize in any manner, at any scale, in any area, and around any issue or activity which is relevant to and consistent with the Preamble, Purpose and Principles.” The issue or activity around which a Cooperation Circle organizes itself should respond to the need of the community. It demands listening and understanding. Members of Sangrur District CC have identified the need to maintain communal harmony. We hope they acchieve their goal and spiritually support their work:

These organizations have been working for long and now they have already found an office for the new cc. We have developed a youth leadership program. We have a wonderful group of young people here in this new cc.”
Young people usually learn more from attitudes than from words. Three organizations coming together to work for interfaith implies common purpose, understanding, respect. It is good they have concentrated their strengths to develop a program for youth. Let us support their effort.
May members of Saharedaya Interfaith Forum, Mylom fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!
May Peace prevail in India!
May Peace prevail in Asia!
May Peace prevail on Earth!

Cooperation Circle members share with us: “We are for oneness with our fellow beings, nations, and cosmos for Harmony, Peace, and Prosperity being a whole family tied together by the ridged bond of brotherhood and sisterhood.”
There are stories of division. During the cc approval meeting when the application of this cc was presented Dr. T. D. Singh explained that people from the Hill and Valley didn’t get on well and that there was need to work for encounter. This Cooperation Circle was created to do so. We hope the Charter has helped them find values and that being part of our global family has given them strength. Let us support their effort.
May members of Sadar Hills and Valley Cooperation Circle fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

Day 268:
Let us join in prayer/ meditation to support Religions for Social Justice - CC
This is what we learn about this Cooperation Circle in the Community Directory: “We are aimed at creating an active forum for uniting various religious traditions that flourish in India. We believe that religions must develop a shared agenda to promote the good of all people and to safeguard the health of society. This will effect a paradigm shift from conflict to cooperation. Swami Agnivesh and Reverend Valson Thampu recently published a book, A Harvest of Hate, based on their intervention in Gujarat in 2001, to help quell inter-religious violence there.”
India known as the land of spirituality and philosophy. The social impact of cooperation among diverse religions, spiritual expressions and indigenous traditions there is great and will probable cause the desired shift of paradigm. Let us support this admirable work.

Dialogue and Cooperation are living values. You experience them in everyday life. However, there is need to systematize learning, to build capacity, to share best practices, especially when preparing future generations. The work of this CC follows this line. We have a good core group there drawn to URI ideals and we had several meetings there in the recent past. It was per their suggestion that we first translated the URI Charter into Malayalam, our regional language. There is a Sri Ram Krishna Ashram near by and the inmates are very enthusiastic about this CC.”
URI was established to create cultures of peace, justice and healing for the Earth. It is important that we reach, be known and develop activities in every corner of the world. We are happy this Cooperation Circle is working to alleviate tension between two communities in Paippadu and that our rich Charter is available for the people there. Let us support this work.
May members of Paippadu Interfaith Council CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

URI is a grass root organization. The good news of our shared work to build global interfaith cooperation has to reach everybody. We are happy that fishermen in this community and youth are part of this initiative. Let us support this work.

Day 256:
We pass from Africa to Asia. We have prayed/ mediated to support 41 Cooperation Circles in this region. URI has extended with vitality in Asia, especially in India where we have more than seventy Cooperation Circles. I invite you to support Manipur URI CC there.
The purpose of this CC is: “To promote and uphold the URI purpose as stated in the URI Charter”.
And this is what members share with us: “We have been working to fulfill the URI Charter and PPP’s to strengthen interfaith cooperation by way of worshiping God through prayer, rituals and discussions about URI's concept at each community's sacred worship place, i.e., masjid, church, gurudwar, etc. This continues the process and also helps membership and fund drives.
Among other activities we are a major constituent of the Manipur Peace Committee, which was formed in the June 2001 uprising and has the same goal as that of URI. We made a timely appeal to those concerned including India's Prime Minister for restoring peace and communal harmony among Hindus and Muslims, who were responsible for creating the Godhara Carnage, (“a disgrace to the nation,” in the Prime Minister's words) which claimed many lives of women and children and thousands of rupees' worth of property.
Having condemned it outright, we requested them to create cultures of peace, justice, and healing among these two communities in Gujarat and the rest of the country including Manipur”.
It is not easy to build peace. In trying to do so we find a lot of challenges. There are times in which we need to annouce our hope, some others we have to denounce what needs to be changed.
Let us support this work:
May members of Manipur URI CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!
May Peace prevail in India!
May Peace prevail in Asia!
May Peace prevail on Earth!

This group was created with the purpose to: “Foster inter-religious harmony.”
This is what we learn about this cc in the community directory: “This is a new CC in Kollam District of Kerala. Kulakkada is pre-dominantly a Hindu area with many famous temples. There had been Hindu-Christian clashes here some time back, but now peaceful. Mr. K. N. Thomas, president of the new CC is a retired High School teacher with good reputation as a social worker. He was a scout master for long who has been working in various social voluntary organizations, too. Members belong to three major religions, viz. Hindus, Christians and Muslims. They have all learned about the URI through our meetings and they accept our charter. Many more members will join the CC very soon and this unit will be an asset to our Movement.”
Once peace has been achieved it is important to dedicate efforts to cultivate and make it grow and be permanent. It is clear this CC is determined to do so. Let us support their work

We have little information about this Cooperation Circle in the Community Directory. We read that this cc was created: “To promote interfaith cooperation and harmony in West Bengal.”
I am sure that we will know much after our Global Assembly next year because we will gather close to Kolkata.
I have learnt that there is a lot of solidarity work done in Kolkata. We can probably find solidarity work done from different religious backgrounds. I think it is remarkable that we have a cooperation circle with members of different religions, spiritual expressions and indigenous traditions working together to promote interfaith cooperation and harmony in West Bengal. Let us support their work

Still in the North of India we will pray/ meditate to support Kashmir Valley CC.
This cooperation circle was created with the purpose “To promote interfaith harmony and peace especially in the most violent states like Jammu & Kashmir.”
This is what members share with us about their local situation and work: "The purpose of URI attracted us because we are already working for the same without formal recognition. As the world knows the situation in Jammu & Kashmir has erupted in communal violence and terrorism. We plan to work towards the purpose of bringing harmony and peace among people and to create more & more Cooperation Circles of URI. Especially in this state (Jammu & Kashmir) the purpose of the URI has a significant role to play and we are committed to it."
The purpose of the United Religions Initiative is to promote enduring, daily interfaith cooperation, to end religiously motivated violence and to create cultures of peace, justice and healing for the Earth and all living beings. As we read from Kashmir Valley CC there is a great need that we acchieve this goal at local level. Cooperation Circles are doing big efforts so that this comes true. Let us support Kashmir Valley CC in their challenging work.

We mobilize people to be more sympathetic about the plight of displaced people and arrange for basic necessities for them. We want our association with URI to increase our understanding of survival and provide us a chance to learn more tolerant behavior."
Wars leave terrible wounds and it is necessary to have a lot of healing work done. Let´s support this cooperation circle, committed to the creation of cultures of peace, justice and healing in Jammu.

Today we will support International Centre for Study and Development CC with our prayers and meditations.
This cooperation circle was created “To promote the development of the weaker sections of society and to encourage study of religions and ideologies.”

In Every year we organize World AIDS Day Campaign, Children's Day, Human Rights Day, and Republic Day. We have 39 full-time staff. In addition to service programs, we have a khadi (Indian cloth) production centre also where poor women find employment. This centre is affiliated to UNESCO.”
Education and service are good bridges among religions. There is a tendency to reject what is not known. Ignorance frequently causes predjudice and discrimination. Let us support the work of this cc dedicated to study and development.
May members of International Centre for Study and Development CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!
May Peace prevail in India!
May Peace prevail in Asia!

Day 193:
Let us continue supporting our ccs in prayer/meditation. Today we will concentrate our spiritual strengths for Interfaith Students Movement of India CC.
The purpose of this cc is: “To promote harmonious co-existence among students, religions and all sections of the society.”
This is what we learn about it in our community directory: “This pioneering students' movement was started with the whole hearted support of URI leadership in South India Region. This organization is new and will work as an umbrella for various inter-faith student groups in different educational institutions. Programs include inter-faith dialogues, study of various religions and ideologies, youth exchange, programs to overcome violence, peace building institutes. This is an association with great potential as the younger generation is the main target. It will go a long way in containing religious fanaticism and dangerous fundamentalism. Its patrons are: Most Rev. Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostom Mar Thoma Metropolitan; Swami Samagrananda; and Imam AbduSchukkoor Maulavi. Advisors include Swami Agnivesh, A. K. Merchant, Dr. Meher Master Moos and Fr. Albert Nambiar Parambil”.
As we did yesterday we should praise and support youth commiting to interfaith work. I find remarkable that this group has the intention to be an umbrella for various students movements in different schools. I think this will help them to coordinate efforts and to learn from one another.
Also, that they have invited adults from different religious backgrounds to be their patrons and advisors. Let us support them.
May members of Interfaith Students Movement of India CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!
May Peace prevail in India!

This is a school in the Muslim management and they are very happy to have an Interfaith Students' Movement in their school. Thadicadu is a Muslim area and very often Hindus - Muslim clashes occur in this place. People really crave for peace and an interfaith organization can contribute a great deal to this. |
