Mr. Sardar Idress, the Minister of the Local Body and Representative of the Chief Minister of the Frontier Province-Government of Pakistan, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest while other dignified people of social life, such as NGO Representatives, Peacebuilders, donors, nurses, doctors, and government officials were present.

The Program was started at 3:30 with Interfaith Prayers and the National Anthem.  We then stood silently in Prayer to honor the memory of the victims.

Dr. Javed Dominic, Master of the Ceremony, welcomed all the guests and gave some brief details about the occasion. He said that this event was jointly organized to give tribute to all of the dedicated people who worked hard on the earthquake relief effort. He recognized their devoted services and said that the Peace Pole will be dedicated in loving memory of all of the earthquake victims will.

“May Peace Prevail on Earth is painted on the Peace Pole in Urdu, English and Arabic will forever be a reminder of those who are no longer in this world as well as a reminder of their relatives who are grieving. Mr. Yuel Bhatti, Coordinator Tehreek Taraque-E-Insaniate-URI-CC and World Peace Prayer Society will lead the event,” said Dr. Dominic.

Yuel Bhatti gave a speech, saying:
“His Excellency Sardar Idress, Minister of the Local Body and Representative of the Chief Minister of the NWP Govt. of Pakistan, Honorable Mr. Jaffer Hussain, Chief Executive of the Medical Complex Abotabad, Mr. Samuel Paryia President of the Bright Future Society, and MPA’s Sahib, Nazams, Deco. Abottabad, very distinguished Representative of UNICEF, WHO, UNO, Red Crescent, Swiss Agency, Mr. Siamon Johnson Dr. Dominic, very respectable ladies and gentle men.

“Today we are dedicating the Peace Pole in the loving memory of the earthquake victims with the Partnership of the Peace and Development Foundation-WPPS, Tehreek Taraque-E-Insaniate-URI-CC, the Bright Future Society, and Ayub Medical Complex, Abottabad in a very prominent place in your presence.

“More than 250,000 Peace Poles are planted in 190 countries. In Pakistan, we planted Peace Poles in almost every City i.e.

In a very strategic moment, many countries helped us a lot.  No doubt, the Pakistani Nation has suffered a great loss due to the horrible earthquake on October 8, 2005. Today, one year has passed, but still there is great need for rehabilitation.

“We also appreciate the President General Pervaiz Musharif and the entire Government of Pakistan, who did a quick and marvelous job working at the time it was most needed.

“We also salute the whole country and the donating agencies for their quick relief. Where we are dedicating the Peace Pole is the place that the Medical staff used their tremendous professional skill to treat and save the lives of thousands of effected patients. This will also be in the memory of history. So, I give the deepest tribute to the Chief Executive Mr.Jaffer Hussain and his staff for their noble, humanitarian task.
