Buenos Aires, Argentina.
At Spring Day (September 21st for the world’s southern countries), and
Argentina’s Student Day; in which the sun enhanced the diversity of
colors, the International Day of Peace (IDP) was celebrated in the
Naciones Unidas (United Nations) Square, in Buenos Aires under the
motto "Let’s live a moment in Peace."
The joint work of numerous organizations blossomed. Among the participants and organizers were members of all five URI Cooperation Circles in Buenos Aires - Emuna CC, Asociacion Intercultural Dialogo CC, Misiones Unidas CC, De Los Pueblos Indigenas CC , and Proyecto Tercer Milenio CC.
Funds were raised in
Buenos Aires to bring kids from the slums outside of the city (three
hours away) to join together with kids from the city to celebrate IDP
together.
They painted a peace flag together, had a picnic and took part in the peace celebration.
Songs, dances and prayers all took place one after the other within a feast environment of peace, in which the presence of children and grandparents was remarkable. Here are descriptions of just a few of the highlights of the day:
Students of Siglo Nuevo School—pioneers in the peace education proposal—explained the symbolism of the Peace Pole and how they often approach it and say "May Peace Prevail on Earth," to reassure their commitment. Afterwards, they delivered the Peace Pole that Proyecto Tercer Milenio donated to Villasoles Institute for the Deaf, where Argentinean Sign Language interpreters are trained.

Teachers from Villasoles sang with sign language and taught us all to express “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in sign language. It was fun and deep learning for all the people present to pray in sign language together. It was extremely moving to watch the self-confidence of the Siglo Nuevo School children and the gratitude of the ones from Villasoles.
A sacred moment took place when there was an interreligious prayer in which members of the Buddhist, Catholic, Islamic, Jewish, Protestant and Baha’i communities gave their peace and hope message.
The indigenous Kolla community was also present, and with it the Pacha Mama; the force of the Earth was also heard in its peace request.
We hope these moments will continue to be heard in everyday life.
