Greetings of peace and light. This is the info about the IDP events that are being planned in Ethiopia by the URI Interfaith Peacebuilding Initiative (IPI) CC for the International Day of Peace (IDP).
IPI has planned to celebrate the International Day of Peace with special events, taking place between 21 - 24 Septembers. The following are the proposed programmes:
1. ART COMPETITION
In commemoration of the International Day of Peace, the IPI in partnership with the Addis Ababa School of Fine Art and Design will co-host the 9th International Peace-pal Art Competition and Exhibition.
The first of its kind in Africa, this Art Competition and Exhibition are being organised by the World Peace Prayer Society and the Goi Peace Foundation. The main theme of the art produced and to be displayed is "Living together in Peace and Harmony" with the message of May Peace Prevail on Earth. The winners will be announced on 21 September at the Addis Ababa University School of Fine Arts and Design. A World Peace prayer ceremony will also be held, with flag-raising by children.
2. VISITING ORPHANAGES
IPI members will visit children in orphanages and as a gesture of solidarity will donate exercise books, pens and other relevant materials. Since, according to the Ethiopian calendar, the New Year will be celebrated, IPI members will convey messages of hope and renewal.
3. PLANTING PEACE TREES in some parts of Addis Ababa
4. TALK SHOW about peace on FM Radio and Peace Spots
5. PEACE AVENUE AND PEACE SQUARE
Progress is made with the Town Hall administration to create a Peace Avenue and Peace Square in the city. During 21 September, leaders of different faiths will also be invited to lay the foundation of such a square.
6. PEACE AWARDS
Starting from this year, peace awards for individuals who have contributed to the creation of a culture of peace in an outstanding manner will be given out. Participants of the above programmes will be inspired to make declarations of non-violence and peace.
7. PEACE PROCLAMATION will be distributed to all members
8. PEACE MESSAGE will be transmitted via the national TV
