Namaste and greetings of Peace! The Philippines has again committed to the task of creating and promoting an awareness of September 21 as UN International Day of Peace (IDP).This year, as in the previous two years, the Peacemakers' Circle, in partnership with the Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation Commission of the Association of major Religious superiors in the Philippines and various other institutions have taken the initiative to convene the different organizations and schools to coordinate the observances for the day. The theme for this year is Moving in Solidarity towards Peace based on Justice. Build up activities leading to the UN IDP are being planned by different organizations and a prayer and study guide for the participating groups has been prepared. The half day celebration program on 21st September will take place in the grounds of the Quezon Memorial Circle. It will start at 1:00pm with the opening of "Peace Booths" set up by different organizations to exhibit the highlights of their activities. A program of interfaith prayers, poems, and songs and interpretative dances is also being prepared. The culminating activity will be a candle light procession around the circle. We are all looking forward to a huge gathering of people from all over Metro Manila to unite in solidarity with our brothers and sisters all over the world to move in Solidarity towards peace based on Justice.

URI Supports the International Day of Peace Vigil.
The "International Day of Peace Vigil" is an idea of a growing number of individuals and groups bound only by a common belief that the power of prayer, meditation, or other sacred spiritual practice serves as a powerful means of encouraging peace and promoting a global ceasefire. We represent many various religious and spiritually oriented groups and a wide segment of civil society throughout the world, as well as representing ourselves as individuals, to support the objective of the International Day of Peace Vigil, which is:
"To encourage worldwide, 24-hour spiritual observations for peace and nonviolence on the International Day of Peace, September 21st in every house of worship and place of spiritual practice, by all religious and spiritually based groups and individuals, and by all men, women and children who seek peace in the world."
The International Day of Peace Vigil is a global undertaking that requires the efforts of many people of all faiths and beliefs to be successful. We encourage you to support the United Nations' call for a full day of global ceasefire on 21 September by observing the day in spiritual contemplation for peace, global ceasefire and nonviolence with other members of your community and/or the broader interfaith community.
Policies and ideas to promulgate the International Day of Peace Vigil are provided by involved participating organizations and individuals and through occasional meetings of mostly interested UN accredited NGOs. Participation and recommendations are open to any group or individual who accepts the objective of the IDP Vigil: "To encourage worldwide, 24-hour spiritual observations for peace and nonviolence on the International Day of Peace, September 21st in every house of worship and place of spiritual practice, by all religious and spiritually based groups and individuals, and by all men, women and children who seek peace in the world." http://www.idpvigil.com/aboutus.html
