Maputo, Mozambique. Greetings of Peace. We had a wonderful time honoring the International Day of Peace.
Three schools celebrated the DAY. The MWANA SCHOOL had songs on peace,
prayers for peace and a brief talk on the significance of the DAY. The
children sang, danced and enjoyed snacks.
The NTWANANU SCHOOL at Costa-do-Sol celebrated with a talk on
International Peace Day. The 200 children had a Peace Day Painting
competition out of which the five best paintings were awarded recieved
prizes. The program included songs and cultural dances on peace. They
all enjoyed a good lunch after they said prayers at noon.
The NTWANANU SCHOOL for adult women at Matola Rio celebrated the DAY
with songs and talk on Peace. This was the first time they organised
the celebration and agreed to do this every year and betternext year
involving the whole area. The word NTWANNU in the local African
language (Shangana) means UNITY.
The URI Multi Cooperation Circle (MCC)
organised the celebration of the IDP at the Hall of the Faculty of
Medicine, University of Eduardo Mondlane in Maputo. Messages of peace
presented by leaders from the Baha'i, the Catholic, the Jewish, the
Muslim, the Protestant Council of Churches, and the Scout Movement were
greatly appreciated. The Traditional Africans danced and sang on Peace
thus entertaining the audience.
The URI Peace Message was read by the
MCC Chairperson. The Permenant Representative of the United Nations in
Mozambique was the guest of honor who addressed the crowd and read the
special message of the UN Secretary General Mr. Kofi Annan for the
occasion.
The Vice President, the Secretary, the Treasurer of the URI
MCC were featured on National STV program 'DIALOGO' for an hour with
Ms. Ana Bela the coordinator, introducing URI and the significance of
the IDP, the impact of Peace in Mozambique.
May Peace Prevail on
Earth
