Members of Escuela de Amor CC have written an inter religious reflection paper based on a seminar they hold every Tuesday for an hour and a half entitled “Learning to co exist” (Aprendiendo a Con vivir ).

Their objective is to go deep into different subjects together and to learn about each other, to understand each other and to love each other. One thing they viewed as a priority was to reach their communities and tell them the story, this is why they created the reflection paper which will be distributed by email and hard copies with a different subject every fortnight. They started with ”Helping your neighbor.” The next paper topic will be “love.”

Here is the first reflection paper the CC created around the topic of “Helping your neighbor.”
(The paper was translated from Spanish to English by URI Communications Intern, Justin Cannon.)

TZEDAKA (Justice)

He executes justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the sojourner, giving him food and clothing.”

(Deuteronomy 10:18)

God in His Mercy is concerned with feeding and clothing those in need without it making a difference who they are, what they look like, what languages they speak, or the color of their skin.

What is important to Him is providing for those who lack the basic necessities of life.

God teaches us that we must live and act as God would, since we are His emissaries here upon the face of Earth.

The bread and clothing that He offers to us is not only the material food and the physical fabric that sustains and clothes the body, but also the spiritual sustenance which allows us to develop as divine creatures carried and sustained by His life-giving breath.

To bring about justice (tzedaka) according to God’s ways is to restore the harmony which for some reason was lost, offering to those most in need the basic necessities which they lack.
