Lesson I: Loving your neighbor

Learning to Coexist

The meaning of life is not in the individual: Life acquires its meaning with the other—with others. "It is not good that the human is alone"…said the LORD, and ever since that very moment we have all been learning to coexist together.

The dizziness of the present times, technology that grows minute by minute, constant consumption...all of these isolate humans more and more within a space void of love and attention, within the snare of mistrust and discord and the trap of competitiveness and individualism. We have embraced that force which separates us, in its variety of forms, and have become oblivious to that which unites us, the foundational question.

Not living together, not living with the other, not being present to one another, we disregard the voice of the Creator of all who invites us into a life of love and respect. God, who lives within each of us since the moment that the Breathe of Life flooded into our being, requests from us only Love: for Him, for our neighbors, and for ourselves.

And Love is only possible in respectful and amiable coexistence, which is not merely a way of living but the Perfection of Life. It is the spiritual power that transcends differences, the total acceptance of the way chosen by the brother, the positive force that connects hearts, restores meaning to life, gives value to ‘us’ and brings us close to God from the way that each one has chosen.

Thank you, for the life which you give to me each day.
Thank you, for the Breath of Life that sustains each beat of my heart.
Thank you, because I can see the wonder of Your Creation.

Thank you, because I can listen to voices and sounds.
Thank you, because I can walk, feel, touch, work, love.
Thank you, because I can appreciate both mentally and physically the amazing miracle of every day.
Thank you, for my soul that inclines before You and perceives your merciful Presence everywhere.
Thank you.
