Multi-Region. Lawyers, legal researchers, and citizens from around the world
are creating a human rights document. This URI CC wants to tell you about this
exciting work and invite your participation.
The International Convention on Human Rights CC supports the
International Convention on Human Rights Project, a project that builds upon
the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the European Convention on Human
Rights by drafting a new human rights document that is enforceable for all people
internationally. The Project carries out
this goal through use of a website in which people can view the evolving draft document. People are able to offer their comments on
the articles, including reports on how their human rights, such as Freedom of
Religion, are being restricted or upheld.
This process complements the work of the United Religions
Initiative (URI), which successfully harnesses the willingness of people to
work together for freedom of religion and other human rights. The International Convention on Human Rights CC
offers a next step, which is to translate this goodwill into something that institutionalizes
the protection of human rights through a document enforceable in the courts of
all countries.
The movement to draft an International Convention can only
be accomplished through widespread understanding and participation. The International Convention on Human Rights CC
will facilitate discussion among many CCs, focusing first on Article 5 that
ensures Freedom of Religion. Although
this is the focus, discussion is open for all articles in the International
Convention on Human Rights.
Dialogue will help people recognize where there are
commonalities and so that concerns and challenges can be understood and common
goals developed. This project intends
not only to recognize the common goals, but also to codify common interests in
an enforceable document to ensure the realization of human rights.
The International Convention for Human Rights CC invites other
CCs to log on to the website and offer their comments and offer life
experiences relating to freedom of religion.
Ultimately, the aim is to receive feedback from a number of CCs via the
International Convention on Human Rights website and to offer processes to
engage in deeper dialogue.
Please check out the website. It will be undergoing
construction daily. Check back to see what is new! http://ichr.opencirclecorp.com
