North America Daily Prayers

A selection of daily prayers representing the cooperation circles in North America (Day 281 to 276, Day 234 to 214, and Day 142 to 122).

Day 281:

Ending with the list of Cooperation Circles in North America we will support Interfaith Council of Washington CC.

The purpose of this CC is:  “To support and promote interfaith community, understanding, social interaction, and individual spiritual growth through education, service, and celebration.” The description in the Community Directory tells us some more about this group: “Vision: we see a world where all faith traditions and communities are honored, respected and celebrated. Goals: Discover common ground among faith traditions; understand and respect the differences between faith traditions; build relationships between faith communities; inspire participation in interfaith programs and events; celebrate, enjoy, and learn from one another. Programs: includes annual Thanksgiving event, youth programs, and the World Religion education series.”

Tolerance referred to relations among different religions and traditions is too small. Honoring, respecting and celebrating all faiths in the vision of this CC demands open hearts and seeks mutual appreciation. It is a step forward. Let us join in prayer/ meditation to support this stretching effort.

May members of Interfaith Council of Washington CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in Washington State!

May Peace prevail in USA!

May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

Day 280:

From Virginia to Washington State we will start supporting Interfaith Circle of Love CC.

This Cooperation Circle was formed:  “To create a genuine interfaith community by celebrating diversity, respecting one another and embracing compassion. To evolve into the fullness of being (spirit & potential) through experience, education, worship, dialogue, fellowship, charitable service.”

The world is of course an interfaith community, nations are interfaith communities, cities are interfaith communities, neighbourhoods are interfaith communities. We have to re create  what is already there because we havent recongnized the value of pluralism and the gift of sharing the world, the nation, the city, the neighbourhood with others. It is wonderful that this cc has found means to help the community be aware of the possibility and the joy of being together in diversity. Let us support their work.

May members of Interfaith Circle of Love CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in Washington State!

May Peace prevail in USA!

May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

Day 279:

Still in Virginia we will pray/ meditate to support Interfaith Explorers CC.

The purpose of this Cooperation Circle is: “To experience, understand, and honor different faiths and to nurture and expanding interfaith community.”

This is what members share with us:  “We are just getting organized and just getting to know each other.  We have had a few wonderful warm meetings on very wet nights and shared a visit to the Church of one of our members.  We look forward to taking this journey of discovery together.”

What else can we do to nurture and expand the interfaith community? We need to know each other, walk together and gain mutual appreciation and respect. Let us support this journey in Virginia:

May members of Interfaith Explorers CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in Virginia!

May Peace prevail in USA!

May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

*********************************************************************

Day 278:

Today we will pray/ meditate to support Interfaith Cooperation Circle – Central Virginia.

This Cooperation Circle was created with this intention: “Our purpose is to foster a culture of peace and understanding by creating opportunities for interfaith community, exploration, healing and celebration.”

This is what they share with us about their activities: “For the past two years we have successfully created a daylong public gathering called Sulha (reconciliation) comprised of workshops, interfaith worship, listening circles, children’s programs, cultural events, music, and Dances of Universal Peace.”

Violence comes many times from wounds that haven’t been healed. There is great need of reconciliation in our hearts, families, communities. The wonderful activities designed by this CC will surely heal wounds and create the opportunities they state in their purpose. Let us support their work.

May members of Interfaith Cooperation Circle – Central Virginia fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in Virginia!

May Peace prevail in USA!

May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

*********************************************************************

Day 277:

Visiting North America with our prayers/meditation we pass to Utah and support Utah URI CC.

This is what members tell us about their CC: “We are a Utah Interfaith Center that provides for celebration, learning and healing.”

This is how they describe their activities: “In 2002-2003 we participated in two interfaith services during the Olympics, and in collaboration with the U.N. CC provided 168 Olympic Peace Poles.  Since then, we have also hosted the American Association of Pastoral Counselors Annual Meeting as well as six U.S. State Department Delegations from Afghanistan, Cyprus, Kyrgyzstan, Namibia, Singapore, and Sweden. We worked with Feeding Children International to send 280,000 meals to URI Malawi.  In addition, we cosponsored the Evening for Peace Ambassador Program and worked with the U.N. URI to present Call to Global Healing to URI Global Assembly.  We also initiated the Globalhealing.net program and participated in a Community March for Peace & Justice to commemorate 9/11 with “May Peace Prevail On Earth” Banners.  Moreover, we hosted Charles Gibbs at an interfaith presentation for the community as well as Bishop Bill Swing, Dr. Noel Brown, and others for a global healing planning meeting at Snowbird, UT.  We also provided programs to refugee groups, participated in the Amnesty International program at the State Capitol, and sponsored a candlelight vigil for Peace.”

There are opportunities in which we can give sense and visibility to interfaith cooperation. It is important that we alert and use them. From what we read about the activities of this Cooperation Circle we can conclude that members have been creative and alert and that they have found ways to promote and build interfaith work in their own state and abroad. Let us support their efforts.

May members of Utah URI CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in Utah!

May Peace prevail in USA!

May Peace prevail in  North America!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

*********************************************************************

Day 276:

As we have supported twenty more ccs in Asia we will change region. We had prayed / meditated for all ccs in Europe, Latin America, Middle East and Multiregion. We have still to go for a third round in North America. Let us start with Rothko Chapel CC.

This is what we learn about this Cooperation Circle in the Community Directory: “The Chapel has two vocations:  contemplation and action.  It is a place alive with religious cermonies of all faiths, and where the experience and understanding of all traditions are encouraged and made available. Action takes form in supporting human rights, and thus the Chapel has become a rallying place for all people concerned with peace, freedom, and social justice throughout the world.

This is what members share with us: “We are a thirty year old organization with an emphasis on bridging relationships between religions; we are also dedicated to promoting awareness of human rights issues.  Our mission is contemplation and action.  We are a sacred space open year-round and every day to people from every country, every culture, every religion.”

Openness and hosptitality is really clear in what we read about this CC. It also reminds us of the Rights and Responsibility area in our guidelines promoting actions that uphold Human Rights.

Let us support the work of this Cooperation Circle so much in line with URI vision:

May members of Rothko Chapel CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in Texas!

May Peace prevail in USA!

May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

************************************************************

Day 234:

On our last day supporting CCs in North America we pass to Texas to support Houston Inter Faith Forum CC.

This Cooperation Circle was formed with this purpose: “We serve the greater Houston Interfaith community by promoting deepened mutual understanding, harmony and peace.”

This is what members share with us about their Activities: “We held a very successful Interfaith Peace Celebration at the Rothko and Saint Thomas University in which participants from 16 different faiths presented prayers, lessons, chants and meditations and/or participated in other demonstrations and courtyard displays. We also organized an immersion tour of two different Hindu Temples.”

I believe these public celebrations and demonstrations in different cities are a great service to interfaith. People get used to see and listen religious leaders together in a respectful way. This is a clear invitation for people of different communities to respect diversity in everyday life. If this becomes a reality we are closer to mutual understanding, harmony and peace.

Let us support this outstanding work.

May members of Houston Inter Faith Forum CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in Texas!

May Peace prevail in USA!

May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

Day 233:

We pass to Tenesse today to support Northeast Tennessee Chapter-URI CC.

This Cooperation Circle was created with this purpose: "To promote awareness, respect, and cooperation among the diverse religions of NE Tennessee2."

This is what we read about its activities in the past years in the Community Directory: "We were formed after twenty people from Northeast Tennessee attended a URI workshop in North Carolina in 1999. Our dream is to fulfill our purpose through our individual examples and through our collective action in the region. We sent Linda Sorrell as our delegate to the Global Signing Ceremony in Pittsburgh in 2000. For three Septembers, we co-sponsored with our Indo-American community: Wisdom from the East and West Conferences. Programs included: Family Values and Rituals, Ideas of the Afterlife, and Religious Violence.  In the fall of 2000, we started seasonal celebrations. In 2004, we had our fourth Thanksgiving celebration. Our local Jewish synagogue, a Presbyterian church, a Unitarian Universalist Church, and a temple for Indo-Americans rotate inviting CC members for special events and services at their homes of worship."

I like the description of fulfilling a purpose through individual examples and collective action. It shows two different and important dimensions of our work inside the cc but it also describes our network formed by individual ccs giving local example joining in collective action.

Let us support both dimensions of their work with our prayers/ meditation.

May members of Northeast Tennessee Chapter – URI CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in Tennessee!

May Peace prevail in USA!

May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

************************************************************

Day 232:

Still in South Carolina we will support Greenville Faith Communties United CC with our prayer/ meditation.

This is what we learn about this Cooperation Circle in the Community Directory: "Greenville Faith Communities United exists to celebrate interfaith understanding, respect and cooperation in pursuit of a just society."

We all want a just society and it is important that we contribute to its creation. Living and celebrating understanding, respect and cooperation is a grand contribution. Let us support their work.

May members of Greenville Faith Communities United CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in South Carolina!

May Peace prevail in USA!

May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

************************************************************

Day 231:

From North Carolina to South Carolina to meet spiritually with Anderson SC & Interfaith CC and support its work.

This Cooperation Circle was formed with the purpose: "To serve the creator and creation in love and peace."

The Community Directory doesn’t have information about the activities they organize to reach the goal but from it we get the idea of service and service can take different forms but manifests a deep feeling of openness and generosity with the others which we want to support.

May members of Anderson SC & Interfaith CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in South Carolina!

May Peace prevail in USA!

May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

************************************************************

Day 230:

Let us join in prayer/ meditation to support Western North Carolina Interfaith Network CC (Formerly Greater Asheville URI CC).

This cooperation circle was created "To promote peace, justice and healing and bring about greater understanding of our cultural and spiritual diversity in the Asheville area and the world."

This is what we read about their activities in the Community Directory: "We draw from a widely diverse spiritual community in western North Carolina, a community that includes participants of all ages from Christian, Jewish, Earth-based, Muslim, Baha'i, Unitarian Universalist, Buddhist, and Hindu communities. We presented a well-attended forum series on 'Exploring Our Spiritual Diversity' with individual topics such as 'Experiencing the Divine' and 'Faith and the Environment.'We coordinate the Heart of the Holidays, an annual event sharing the rituals and traditions that make our winter holidays a time of spiritual renewal.  In addition, we celebrated Storytelling from the World's Religions, a multigenerational event bringing together our sacred stories.  In 2003, we held our second Interfaith Teen Retreat, which brought sixty-five teens from twelve different faith communities together to address issues of religious intolerance in our schools.  We also cosponsored 'A Force More Powerful,' a six-week discussion series highlighting nonviolent resolution to oppression around the world.
We cosponsor a multifaith celebration of the National Day of Prayer in May of each year.  Once a month, a small group meets for discussion about a specific topic.  Topics have included 'Can you take a vacation from religion?'  and "What form does prayer/communion with the Divine take in your spiritual tradition?"  We encourage everyone to bring a listening heart and a brown bag lunch!"

It is necessary that we are creative and organize different activities to help our communities understand and enjoy diversity. This CC has explored a lot of them. Let us support their good work.

May members of Western North Carolina Interfaith Network CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in North Carolina!

May Peace prevail in USA!

May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

************************************************************

Day 229:

Still in North Carolina we will pray/meditate to support URI of Henderson County CC.

This is what members of this Cooperation Circle say about their purpose: "The URI of Henderson County sees its mission as promoting peace in our community by promoting understanding among the religions present in Henderson County as well as promoting peace inwardly, locally and globally."

They describe their activities: "Our program in 2005 has involved monthly interfaith dialogues with attendance being between 25-40 persons each session. In addition, we are partnering with the Salt Lake City CC in sponsoring the Southern Sudan School Project as well as the Kenya CC in providing education for refugee children. Our annual picnic occurs in September and we shall plant a Peace Pole on September 21st at City Hall in honor of the International Day of Peace. The highlight of the year is our New Year's Interfaith Service for Peace that occurs at the end of December. The donations we received at last year's interfaith service were given for tsunami relief. We take seriously our commitment to the larger global family and send a tithe of the money we might have in December to the Global URI."

Our network of Cooperation Circles is a community. The description of the activities of this CC makes visible two aspects of this close relationship: the mutual understanding and support and the possibility of sharing a global project as the Celebration of the International Day of Peace. There are many ways of supporting each other, praying/meditating for one another is one. Let us do it for Henderson County CC.

May members of URI of Henderson County CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in Henderson County!

May Peace prevail in North Carolina!

May Peace prevail in USA!

May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

Day 228:

We are visiting North Carolina with our daily prayer/meditation today. We will support United Religions of Charlotte CC.

This Cooperation Circle was created “To learn effective methods of cultural cooperation, honor and appreciate the religious traditions of all, and demonstrate values of tolerance and fairness.”

This is what members tell us about their Activities: “We began meeting a year ago and spent some time deciding on our purpose and working on our application. We meet monthly and recently have been studying Non Violent Communication, A Language of Life, by Marshall Rosenberg. For four years we joined many others around the world and other organizations in our community in a celebration of United Nations International Peace Day.”

Shared study is a good method of cultural cooperation. I imagine that there is learning in what members of this cc read and also in the comments and exchange that this study inspires. Let us support the richness of these ecounters.

May members of United Religions of Charlotte CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in North Carolina!

May Peace prevail in USA!

May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

Day 227:

On our last day in New York we will pray/meditate to support URI of New York CC.

This Cooperation Circle was created: “To further the purpose, principles, and Charter of the URI in New York City.  To create interfaith dialogue in the wake of the September 11th tragedy.”

Violence is always senseless, unfruitful and painful. The same way we value light in darkness, violence calls us value and search peace. May all of us redouble our efforts for peace and support each other in the creation of new cultures of peace, justice and healing.

May members of URI of New York CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in New York!

May Peace prevail in USA!

May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

************************************************************

Day 226:

We invite you to pray/ meditate to support The River Fund today.

This Cooperation Circle looks forward “To further promote interfaith service to the poor and those with life challenging illnesses.”

This is what we learn about its activities in the Community Directory: “The River Fund New York operates an in-house pantry and several Outreach Programs in the New York area  providing  food, after-school snacks, vitamins, clothing, blankets, needed toiletries, yoga and other services.”

Our preamble ends: “We unite to use our combined resources only for non violent, compassionate action, to awaken to deepeth truths and to manifest love and justice among all life in our Earth Community.” After reading the description of activities of this CC we can imagine cc members affirming this. Let us support their compassionate action, let us support their work

May members of The River Fund fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in New York!

May Peace prevail in USA!

May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

************************************************************

Day 225:

Today we will be supporting Mid Hudson Valley URI CC in prayer/ meditation.

This Cooperation Circle was formed with the purpose: “To bring together members of all faiths in the Hudson Valley region.”

This is what members share with us about their activities: “We work to support interfaith dialogue in the Hudson Valley Region, through a variety of interfaith events, and through networking with existing religious organizations to make them aware of URI and its goals.”

We have been reading about more than two hundred and twenty groups around the world promoting interfaith dialogue and gathering the strength of religious leaders and their communities to work for common good. We are in risk of getting accostumed to it, of thinking this is something usual. Let us go some years back: we wouldn’t have dreamt this was going to happen, let us reflect about the present: there is still a long way to go, let us hope for a better future wholeheartedly supporting initiatives all over the world. Let us pray/meditate to support Mid Hudson Valley URI CC

May members of Mid Hudson Valley URI CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in New York!

May Pea ce prevail in USA!

May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

************************************************************

Day 224:

I invite you to join us in prayer/meditation to support Interfaith Council of New York Inc. CC.

The purpose of this Cooperation Circle is: “To promote interfaith understanding  in the New York area.”

Relations find a solid base in understanding. It demands that we stop, recognize the other and embrace his/her experience. In order to build interfaith cooperation it is important that we are able to stop with the will to understand other beliefs, religious practices. This understanding will generate the safe space that will allow us to share the wisdom and cultures of our faiths and to work together for common good. Let us support this Cooperation Circle with our prayer/meditation

May members of Interfaith Council of New York Inc. CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in New York!

May Peace prevail in USA!

May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

************************************************************

Day 223:

We will change of State again. We pass to Massachusetts  where we find Boston Clergy & Religious Leaders Group for Interfaith Dialogue CC.

The purpose of this Cooperation Circle is stated like this in our Community Directory:  “In this city of many cultures and religions, we come together as partners in religion to create a welcoming and mutually supportive environment.  We gather to foster those specific dialogues which will help us know each other, learn from and celebrate each other as individuals and partners in religion.”

This is what members say about their work: “We ended last June our fifteenth year as an interfaith group and our seventh as a URI Circle. We meet on the last Wednesday of each month from September to June from 7:45 until 9:15 a.m. for a continental breakfast and a guest speaker who stimulates table discussions. We meet at the Kings' Chapel Parish House, on Beacon Street near the State House. Our Steering Committee of seven people selects speakers and takes turns chairing meetings. We sent two delegates to the URI-NAIN Connect meeting in Las Vegas this August, which has catalyzed us to seek greater interfaith cooperation in the city. Our topic this September is “URI:  Our Connection to an Inter-religious World.” If you are in Boston join us for a breakfast in historic Kings' Chapel, followed by a lively interfaith discussion.”

In a world of communication dialogues are not that frequent. We hear a lot but we don’t listen much, we teach a lot but we are not so opened to learn, we are sometimes too busy to celebrate. I can imagine and even enjoy the space described by this Cooperation Circle: early morning encounters, good breakfast and an interesting guest speaker inviting to rich exchange among participants. I am sure these dialogues are fruitful and will create the supportive environment this cc is in search of. Let us support their work.

May members of Boston Clergy and Religious Leaders Group for Interfaith Dialogue CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in Massachusetts!

May Peace prevail in USA!

May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

************************************************************

Day 222:

We will visit Maryland with our prayers/meditation and support URI Baltimore MD CC.

This Cooperation Circle pursues the purpose: “To promote peace, justice and healing in the city of Baltimore and interfaith cooperation.”

This is what we read about their activities in the Community Directory: “We meet on the third Tuesdays of every month for a 7:00 p.m. fellowship with refreshments, and then have a special program from 7:30-9:00 p.m. The individual interfaith relationships that develop as well as the opportunity to learn about and appreciate the religious orientations of others are very valuable. There has been a constant effort by active members to make the URI cause known to the community through a variety of contacts. We emphasize the search to understand the similarities and differences between other religions and one's own, especially in terms of the distinctions between eternal beliefs vs. cultural beliefs as well as the essence of a religion vs. erroneous expressions of the religion. We also coordinate monthly mailings to promote our next meeting, summarize the last meeting and announce related news.”

This description of activities helps me reflect about  URI growth and its expansion. We do need that Cooperation Circles make URI known. While we organize meetings, programs, promote interfaith relationships, know each other, help the needy etc we can promote URI by letting our contacts know URI preamble, purpose and principles, URI work in the world as this Cooperation Circle does. It is good news for the world that diverse religions, spiritual expressions and indigenous traditions cooperate to create Peace, Justice and Healing. Let us support their work.

May members of URI Baltimore MD CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in Maryland!

May Peace prevail in USA!

May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

************************************************************

Day 221:

We will change of state again. Today we will support a CC in Indiana. Its name is Muncie Interfaith Fellowship.

This is what we read about the purpose of this Cooperation Circle: “An organization serving East Central Indiana that seeks to foster understanding between religious faiths and serve as an opportunity for people from different religious traditions to share and appreciate each other's teachings while working together for the good of the Muncie community.”

This is how members describe their activities: “The Muncie Interfaith Fellowship is an existing group that has been going strong for a number of years.  In addition to a monthly dialogue group that attracts a core of 10-20 people, we hold larger public interfaith events drawing hundreds of people, such as 9/11 commemorative services, Thanksgiving events, interfaith dinners, events honoring the International Day of Peace, and fundraisers for the local food pantry. We try to get two people from each tradition to represent the fellowship in their own places of worship, and to be a liaison. We have a weekly radio show on a local station (archives are available at www.bsu.edu/cpcs/fellowship.htm).

Share and appreciate: wonderful actions! There is a lot of growth and good if we experience them. I am sure Muncie Community will profit from this great initiative. Also, that each of us can enjoy sharing and appreciation wherever we are. Let us support this work.

May members of Muncie Interfaith Fellowship CC  fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in Muncie Community!

May Peace prevail in Indiana!

May Peace prevail in USA!

May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

************************************************************

Day 220:

We pass to Florida. We will support Kashi Foundation CC with our prayer/ meditation today.

This active organization has the purpose: “To provide a sacred gathering ground for all traditions which embraces diversity, bridges cultures and values, initiates dialogue and contributes global perspectives for the future.  The essence of our teaching is based on compassion, kindness, and a commitment to truth expressed through service to humanity and oneself.”

If you visit their webpage you will learn about the very many activities they organize to acchive this goal. In Recent Happenings we can read: “There is always something new happening at Kashi, and this is the place to watch it all unfold.”

Let us support their work:

May members of Kashi Foundation CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in Florida!

May Peace prevail in USA!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

************************************************************

Day 219:

We pass from Colorado to Columbia to support URI of Washington DC CC.

This Cooperation Circle was created “To make visible the purpose and principles of the URI in this important international capital.”

This is what members share with us: “We partner with interfaith organizations and the diverse, multi-cultural faith communities in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. We sponsor and co-sponsor many special events, most recently a 9/11 Unity Walk down Embassy Row. This unprecedented event rekindled that spirit of togetherness as houses of worship and groups of all faiths participated. Other partnerships have included environmental cleanups, social action, Youth Service Days, and sacred music, dance and poetry events. Our monthly meetings may feature a speaker on issues of interest or concern, or may be spent sharing stories and information, listening deeply, while always maintaining a safe space for connection, openness and love. We strive to learn from each other as we explore our differences and commonalities with great respect.”

It is important that those that share values and purposes find opportunities to speak up or do together. Partnerships strengthen the voice and work of those with a common goal and make clear that they search the best for the community rather than recognition. Let us support this Cooperation Circle developing their work in such an important city.

May members of URI of Washington DC CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in Washington!

May Peace prevail in USA!

May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

************************************************************

Day 218:

Let us pass from California to Colorado to support Rocky Mountain URI-CC.

In coherence with our principle number 11: “We seek and offer cooperation with other interfaith efforts” Rocky Mountain URI–CC gathered with the purpose: “To build bridges across and beyond existing interfaith organizations in the Rocky Mountain Area.  We will do this by regularly creating opportunities for interfaith ritual, dialogue, and relationship.”

If we are to help build interfaith cooperation it would be senseless to compete with other interfaith efforts. The goal we are to acchieve is too high and demands joint work. Respect for one another´s work and collaboration among interfaith organizations models what we want to see among religions, spiritual expressions and indigenous traditions.

Let us pray/meditate that the bridges built by this Cooperation Circle are solid and enduring.

May members of Rocky Mountain URI–CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in Colorado!

May Peace prevail in USA!

May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace prevail among all Interfaith Organizations!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

************************************************************

Day 217:

Let us join in prayer/ meditation to support Worldwide Forgiveness Alliance CC.

This Cooperation Circle develops its activities with the purpose of “Globalizing the healing spirit of forgiveness.”

The spirit of forgiveness… How much we need it! We need to learn to forgive ourselves, to forgive all those who have hurt us spiritually, physically, economically, socially. We need to develop forgiveness in our families, in our groups, in our communities, with other communities, among cultures, between countries. We have to heal the past, share the present, create a new future. Let us wholeheartedly support this CC.

May members of Worldwide Forgiveness Alliance CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in United States!

May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace and Forgiveness prevail on Earth!

************************************************************

Day 216:

Today we will support in prayer/meditation Women´s Interfaith Circle of Service CC.

This Cooperation Circle was created to achieve this purpose: “To provide a positive and respectful interfaith forum and to respect one another’s service projects.”

This is what members explain: “One of the reasons we’re so interested in joining URI is its worldwide network – having people on the ground around the world can help us make sure that what we’re trying to do can happen more reliably. We are focusing specifically on working with women, they are creating a spiritual atmosphere in their families, and we want something that will go beyond one generation”.

Families are the first cooperation circles we are in. If children learn in the family about love, respect, forgiveness, cooperation it will be easier for them to live into these values. I am impressed the work of this cooperation circles is directed to women as spiritual leaders in their families. Let us support this work that takes us into the future

May members of Women’s Interfaith Circle of Service CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in California!

May Peace prevail in USA!

May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

************************************************************

Day 215:

Still in California we will support Volunteers in Service to URI CC.

This Cooperation Circle gatheres with this purpose: “To give our time and energy to URI as needed.”

This is what members say about their work: “In Spring 2005 we hand painted prayer shawls as gifts for the Global Council members meeting in Seoul, Korea.  We staff gatherings such as Circles of Light, and do background work at the office.”

Our hub, Global Office  is in The Presidio, in San Francisco, California. We know there is a wonderful staff working in the office to support URI work around the world. There are moments this team needs special support and members of this cooperation circle ready to offer their volunteer work. Their talents and dedication are very much appreciated. Let us respond to their generosity with our prayer/meditation

May members of Volunteers in service to URI CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in San Francisco!

May Peace prevail in USA!

May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

************************************************************

Day 214:

I have prayed/meditated to support all ccs of Multiregional in our 2007 Community Directory and we pass to North America.

From the summer in South America I invite you to support the second round of Cooperation Circles developing their work in this strong winter in North America. Today we will pray /meditate for Vietnamese Interfaith Council of CA-CC

This Cooperation Circle is working for this Purpose: "Improving the image and condition of the Vietnamese people in our community and Vietnam."

It is important that we are aware of our brothers and sisters around the world and that we do our best to heal their wounds. I find outstanding and exemplar that this cooperation circle in California takes especial care of this wounded community. Let us support their work and follow their example with people and communities related to us that may be suffering.

May members of Vietnamese Interfaith Council of California CC fulfill their aspiartions and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in Vietnam!

May Peace prevail in United States!

May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

************************************************************

Day 142:

Today we will pray/meditate to support URI San Francisco Peninsula CC and tomorrow we will pass to South East Asia and the Pacific Region. We will have our dialy prayer to support other ccs in North America in a second row. URI San Francisco Peninsula CC was created “To educate about matters of social concern; to act, listen, share thoughts, and reinforce personal beliefs.” This is the description of activities we read from this cc in the community directory : “The primary way we contribute to URI's purpose is by sharing each member's faith with other members. Any questions may be asked of the faith presenter, and all members respect each other's beliefs and practices.”

Our preamble says: “We value voices that respect others and believe that sharing our values and wisdom can lead us to act for the good of all” and principle 5 stresses the idea: “We listen and speak with respect to deepen mutual understanding and trust.” From what we read we can clearly see URI San Francisco Peninsula CC living into these words of our Charter. Let us support its members:

May members of URI San Francisco Peninsula CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in San Francisco!

May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

Day 141:

Please join us in prayer/meditation to support URI of the Monterey Peninsula CC. Members of this cooperation circle has gathered: “To create a local community of individuals from diverse faiths and spiritual traditions who will meet to build friendship and foster education, understanding and appreciation for one another's religious and spiritual traditions.” Friendship is a treasure we need to build and keep. Most of us might recognize that CC work has given many satisfactions and one of the most valuable ones: friendship.

When Carlos was getting ready for surgery the priest of our parrish came to vist us and gave him the Sacrament of the Ill. The doctor that was talking with him, interrupted for a while and when he was ready to re start two wonderful friends came with blessings too: the Rabbi and Sheik in our cooperation circle. I can't describe the face of the doctor, who probably thought was in Heaven: a Priest, a Rabbi, a Sheik together conforting a sick man. My heart in flames with gratitude for friendship. Let us support URI of the Monterey Peninsula CC in their efforts to build friendship and foster education, understanding and apprecaition for one another:

May members of URI of the Monterey Peninsula CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in the Monterey Peninsula!

May Peace prevail in California! May Peace prevail in USA!

May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

Day 140:

Today we will support Unity-and-Diversity World Council with our prayers/meditations. We read in the community directory that the purpose of Unity and Diversity Council is “To establish and sustain a local-to-global cooperating body of individuals, groups, and networks for the pursuit of peace, justice, and an environmentally sustainable civilization for all races, cultures, and religions based on universal ethical and spiritual principles.” And that they: “Weekly-A worldwide message going out by email in support mostly of the inner work of UDC, plus a small gathering in Los Angeles that soon we hope will be enlarged in its scope. Monthly-Two Interfaith Celebrations at different venues in Southern California involving numerous faiths in prayer/meditation, sharing on a given theme, and dialog. Also, a General Assembly meeting in downtown L.A., which in turn is helping to launch a continuing campaign to establish a Global Assembly, including an internet dialog among groups wherever that are located. Annually-Peace Sunday in December and a conference/retreat in June near the time of U.N. Charter Day.”

Some days ago we received a message from this cc with these words from Rev. Leland Stewart, contact and founder of this CC: “Unity-and-diversity is an outgrowth of the modern world and its emphasis upon democracy. This movement’s birth comes through the discovery of a new consciousness of unity amid the diversity of religions and ways to live. No single religion or way of life is any longer adequate to meeting the needs of the entire world, but by means of mutual respect and cooperation all paths may be woven into the fabric of a world culture.” Let us support their effort with our prayers/meditations:

May members of Unity and Diversity World Council fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in USA!

May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

*********************************************************************

Day 139:

Continuing our prayers/meditations to support our ccs in California we get to The Marin Interfaith Council CC. A very clear purpose guides their work: “The Marin Interfaith Council is a respectful collaborative-celebrating faith traditions, advocating justice and building community.” How different the world would be if all of us learnt to relate with others in a more respectful and collaborative way! We are caught in individualism, discrimination, violence, competition. Let us support the work of this cc calling people in The Marin and helping us to reflect about our relations.

May members of The Marin Interfaith Council CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

Day 138:

Today we will be praying/meditating to support Spiritual and Religious Alliance for Hope CC (SARAH). This cooperation circle was created “To empower the community, learn from each other and enlighten one another. To create a culture of peace.” Members describe their origin and activities like this: “We were established as a group of interfaith women committed to making a difference in our community. We have created a group where we can discuss and expand our experiences of women's spirituality in the home, community, and the world. We want to learn about one another's cultural and spiritual foundations in order to enrich our own lives, and together improve our community. We can learn all of this from each other through dialogue, community service, guest speakers, and book discussions. We know that collaboration is essential to creating miracles and, like a good parent empowers her children, so do we empower the community to make a real difference towards peace and understanding.”

There is a sentence in our Preamble that says “We believe that our religious, spiritual lives, rather than dividing us, guide us to build community and respect for one another.” What we read in the community directory about SARAH is a good example of this. Let us share their hope and support their work:

May member of Spiritual and Religious Alliance for Hope CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in California!

May Peace prevail in USA!

May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

Day 137:

Let us gather our spiritual strengths to support Spiritual Alliance for the Earth CC (S.A.F.E.) today. This cooperation circle was created: “To form an interfaith, spiritually focused ecology movement that allows people from different traditions to find a common cause in caring for creation.”

We read in its description of activities in the community directory: “S.A.F.E. hosts an interfaith ceremony and environmental fair to honor and bless the environment each year on Earth Day. Currently, SAFE is working with other URI CCs and local environmental groups to create a conference around the growing world water crisis, bringing to together faith traditions, environmental activists, government, business, youth, and more to discover how local engagement and collaboration can lead to global change.”

Principle 10 of our Charter says: “We act from sound ecological practices to protect and preserve the Earth for both present and future generations.” We are happy to support the efforts of Spiritual alliance for the Earth CC in coherence with this principle.

May members of Spiritual Alliance for the Earth CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in California!

May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

Day 136:

Today we will support Peace Prayer CC. The intention of this cooperation circle is: “To gather people from multi-faiths to pray and work for peace.” This is how cc members describe their action: “Our primary focus is on prayer and meditation for peace each Wednesday at noon. Our secondary focus is on collaboration with groups to promote peace, understanding, cooperation, and brotherhood. This year, we participated in activities such as the fourth annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Service, the second Religious Understanding Day, and a high school baccalaureate service. When appropriate, we include a table with prayers and other peace materials from many faith traditions.”

We have been praying/meditating for Peace and to support and give visibility to the work of Cooperation Circles in our regions all over the world for 136 days today. It is fantastic to read about and support a cc with this same objective.

May members of Peace Prayer CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in California!

May Peace prevail in USA! May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

*********************************************************************

Day 135:

We will support Language of Peace Cooperation Circle with our prayers/meditations today. This cooperation circle was created: "To promote interfaith cooperation, tolerance and peace, locally and globally." This is what we read about it in the community directory: "'Sacred Arts and Spirituality' was the theme for the fifth annual Humboldt County Interreligious Peace Festival held at Humboldt's State University in Northern California.

The purpose was to benefit the Wiyot Sacred Site Fund to help restore the sacred lands of the Wiyot people. Twenty-three different religious groups and local organizations consisting of different faith traditions gathered to gather for a day of peaceful sharing with the Wiyot people to move a step closer to realizing the Wiyot vision "of dancing again at the center of its spiritual universe." Our preamble reads “We unite to provide a global opportunity for participation by all people, especially by those whose voices are not often heard.” In what CC members say we can hear the echoe of these words. Let us support their work.

May members of Language of Peace Cooperation Circle fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail among indigenous and not indigenous!

May Peace prevail in California!

May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

*********************************************************************

Day 134:

Today we will be supporting International Institute for Global Studies CC. This cooperation circle has gathered round this purpose: “To provide global education programs to high school and post secondary students which contribute to an understanding of global issues, global economy, and the diversity of cultures. These programs develop respect and tolerance of other cultures, an enthusiasm for learning, an understanding of the interdependence among nations and peoples, and knowledge of the interconnectedness of the Earth's ecosystems.”

And this is how members describe their activities: “We integrate young people into foreign cultures and environments, creating experiences that illustrate the value of diversity for personal, cultural and global survival. We contribute to furthering global cooperation and bringing consciousness about forming a global society through understanding of the interdependence among nations and peoples and knowledge of the inter-connectedness of the Earth's ecosystems. Our goal is to understand the challenges facing humankind, and to provide the skills, the understanding, and sense of responsibility needed to work towards solutions. This past year we organized and led five trips for six schools from around the country. Destinations included the Hopi Mesas, Baja California and the Yucatan pennisula. Activities included interacting with local cultures through homestays, service projects and sports activities and understanding threatened environments through whale watching, snorkeling, SCUBA, kayaking, rapelling into cenotes, visiting ancient ruins and Mayan villages, night walks, teambuilding activities, dialogues and leadership development.”

Education is experiential. We learn a lot by experiencing. Peace and understanding are also learnt by living into these values. Let us support International Institute for Global Studies promoting that youth dives into the experience of interdependence and inter connectedness.

This ministry intends to protect the earth's ecosystems, safeguard public health, and ensure sufficient, sustainable energy for all.”

We can´t deny the issues this cc approaches are urgent and essential. Let us support their care and work for Creation.

This CC was created in the very beginning of URI and at the Presidio were the hub is “To welcome, serve, and celebrate the diverse faith traditions and spiritual wisdom of the Bay Area.” This is how cc members describe their activities: "In 1995, the Interfaith Center at the Presidio was incorporated as a nonprofit organization devoted to interfaith dialogue, collaboration, friendship, education, and service. Representatives from seventeen Bay Area interfaith organizations elect a board whose mission is to welcome, serve, and celebrate the diverse spiritual wisdom and faith traditions of the Bay Area. The Center cares for and operates the Main Post Chapel in the Presidio of San Francisco, California. More than 1,000 events a year are hosted at the Chapel-worship, weddings, concerts, retreats, and ecumenical, interfaith gatherings. Hospitality allows the Center to be largely self-sustaining. The Center is developing an academy for clergy, seminarians, and lay leaders focused on respect, friendship, and collaborative relationships among diverse faith communities.

The Center is a founding, pledging Cooperation Circle of United Religions Initiative, participates in URI and Parliament of the World's Religions activities, and is a member of the North American Interfaith Network." Those who have visited San Francisco have surely enjoyed the beautiful way this CC acchieves its purpose in coherence with our principle 6. We give and receive hospitality. Let us support them with our prayers/meditations so that they continue offering interfaith hospitality.

May members of Interfaith Center at the Presidio CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

Day 129:

Still in California USA we will pray/meditate to support Ik Onkar Peace Foundation today. We read in the community directory: “The mission of the Ik Onkar Peace Foundation is to promote personal growth toward divine consciousness within and in relationship to one another, seeking harmony in the world. It strives to promote peaceful conflict resolution, encourage economic and social justice, preserve planetary beauty and resources, and work toward peace.”

It also brings an explanation about the name of the CC and the activities they develop: “The name of this CC comes from the Punjabi words, Ik-One and Kar-Manifestation, which is the foundation of Sikh practice. We have hosted a leadership workshop on building bridges where we used an exercise from the URI 2002 Global Assembly. We answered for each other, "what is in our different religious practices that are both inclusive and exclusive?" GS Sachdev offered a concert to support our funding, and we have given gifts to help those impacted by several disasters. Our members include multi-generational people from the Muslim, Sikh, Hindu, Christian, Buddhist, and Jewish faiths.”

Our preamble says “…We believe that our religious, spiritual lives, rather than dividing us, guide us to build community and respect for one another. Therefore, as interdependent people rooted in our traditions, we now unite for the benefit of our Earth community…”. Let us support this cooperation circle that echoes these words in action:

May members of Ik Onkar Peace Foundation fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in California!

May Peace prevail in USA!

May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

*********************************************************************

Day 128:

Today we will pray/meditate to support Culver City Area Interfaith Alliance, a relatively new cc that shares its purpose in this way: “We are a coalition of religious organizations seeking to:

·PROMOTE the exercise of faith and practice of religion in Culver City, California and adjacent areas

·CULTIVATE a friendly cooperative and synergistic relationship between the city’s government and religious communities

·BUILD partnerships among the religious congregations to develop affective ministries for Culver City residents

·WORK TOGETHER for the benefit of the total community without compromising doctrinal values or beliefs

This is what members tell us about their birth and activities: “Following some incidents of gang related violence at the high school in 1998, the City Council of Culver City, at the suggestion of Council member Al Vera and others thought it would be a good idea if the spiritual leaders of the community were summoned together to discuss ways that these problems could be addressed. Specifically the City wanted to know if the houses of worship might be able to help by providing after school care –safe spaces where children could go after school until their parents returned home from work. Several programs were started. In those days leadership was assumed by Father Al Burnham of St. Augustine Catholic Church who had a great personal interest in interfaith dialogue. He was joined by Jim Krause a member of the United Methodist Church who let his organizational skills and his expertise as consultant to non profit organizations. They grew in number and had the support of the City that was a full partner. The Alliance has sponsored two or three events per year. In addition to producing the events, the group also enjoyed getting together to discuss various topics from the point of view of their various faiths traditions for example Charity, Fasting, Conversion, Humor etc. In the current year we are continuing to emphasize dialogue in our meetings Instead of putting energy into producing events of our own we are seeking to cooperate with other organizations who are producing events which we also support for example Peace Sunday in December and a Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Celebration in January in cooperation with the City of Culver City. We are still intending to produce or co produce an Interfaith Music Festival in the spring.”

One terrible thing about violence is that it usually paralyzes those working for peace. Let us support members of Culver City Area Interfaith Alliance that have found a creative way to prevent violence among youth gathering strengths and resources of religious leaders and the city.

May members of Culver City Area Interfaith Alliance fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in Culver City!

May Peace prevail in California!

May Peace prevail in USA!

Day 126:

Today we will support Bay Area Friends of the Parliament CC 'The Bridge.' Members created this cooperation circle: “To uphold and support one another's interfaith projects and to bridge the work of the Council for the Parliament of the World's Religions and the URI.”

This is how they describe their action: “Our primary work is to serve as a Bridge of cooperation between the Council for the Parliament of the World's Religions and the URI. We organize interfaith outreach conferences in the Bay Area. We pioneer methods for hosting conversations, both with INTRA-faith groups and INTER-faith groups about social, economic, and environmental issues. In 2003, we hosted three conferences that offered a Taste of the Parliament, that introduced hundreds of people to the opportunity of attending the Parliament World Interfaith Conference in Barcelona in July 2004.” Principle 11 of our Charter says: “We seek and offer cooperation with other interfaith efforts.”

Interfaith Cooperation is our construction for peace. It is important that we create bridges and collaborate with other interfaith organizations. Let us support with our prayers/meditations this CC serving as bridge with the Parliament of the World’s Religion.

May members of Bay area Friends of the Parliament CC “The Bridge” fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in Bay Area, California!

*********************************************************************

Day 125:

We pass from Arkansas to California today. We have a good group of CCs there. We are going to start supporting the first in the roster: Alliance for Spiritual Community CC. This very active cc working in the track of Spirituality and Ecology has gathered: “To proclaim and affirm the spiritual nature of all communities.” This is how its members share with us their vison and action: “Vision: We co-create spiritual communities of love, trust and mutual respect which embrace our diversity, celebrate the oneness of the human spirit, serve the well-being of the human family, and honor the sanctity of all creation. Activities: We sponsor two major events each year, our Annual Peace Day on January 1 and our Leadership Prayer Breakfast each October. The Peace Day is an outgrowth of the 72 Hours project and is an opportunity for members of our community to focus on peace on the first day of the New Year. We have at least 8 or 10 faith traditions offer practices that promote peace. About 100 people attend. Our main focus is on promoting dialogue and interfaith cooperation. We believe that dialogue among people of diverse faiths and cultures transforms the world. The Alliance for Spiritual Community provides information about other Interfaith organizations in Orange County.”

It is important to recognize the spiritual nature of human beigns and the need to honor and take care of creation together in our diversity.

Let us pray to support Alliance for Spiritual Community CC.

May Alliance for Spiritual Community CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in California!

May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

*********************************************************************

Day 124:

We pass from Canada to United States.

Today we will support our only CC in Arkansas. It is called Many Rivers CC and their purpose is: “To meet monthly for worship, dialogue, and learning.” This is how members describe their birth and actions: “We were birthed by at interfaith gathering of eleven different traditions on September 11, 2002 at St. James' Episcopal Church in Eureka Springs, AR, USA. We are a group of interfaith people who meet every month for interfaith singing and sharing. In January 2004, we led a program to honor Martin Luther King. In the future, we want to plan discussions and book studies to help bring people of different faiths together. We value URI because it provides a context for doing interfaith work and involves real folks who are less theologically bounded than clergy.”

There are situations that call us to action and to be creative to change things. Let us support this Cooperation Circle that has chosen to promote interfaith encounters to end religiously motivated violence and create cultures of peace, justice and healing.

May members of Many Rivers CC fulfill their aspirations and live in peace!

May Peace prevail in Arkansas!

May Peace prevail in USA!

May Peace prevail in North America!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

*********************************************************************

Day 123:

Let us support URI Vancouver CC with our prayers/meditations today. This cooperation circle was created “To carry out the work of the URI in Vancouver.” We don’t know much about their activities. Yet,we know that URI is needed everywhere to create cultures of peace, justice and healing for the Earth and all living beings. Let us pray/meditate to support this cc that is working so that URI expands and deepens in Vancuver.

May members of URI Vancouver CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in Vancouver!

May Peace prevail in Canada!

May Peace prevail on Earth!

*********************************************************************

Day 122:

Because we have supported in prayer/meditation 20 ccs from Multiregional Region we will pass to North America. As we promised, we will have a second round praying/meditating to support remaining ccs in all regions. So, passing to North America we will support Clergy for Compassion and Harmony CC in Canada.

Their members explain: “We are an association of clergy from historic religions. We provide spiritual support to fellow- clergy through friendship, prayer, worship/devotions, theological reflection and discussion of common issues and problems faced by religious communities; we also take action of a spiritual nature if necessary.” And this is the way they describe their activities: “We are made up of visible minority clergy serving visible minority communities of historic faiths in the lower Mainland, primarily Surrey, Delta, and Richmond. Our mission is to support visible minority clergy through friendship, prayer and devotions. We discuss common issues and problems to take action of a spiritual nature. Since 1993,our members have been visible minority Anglicans, Buddhists, Catholics, Hindus, Lutherans, Muslims Sikhs, and United Church. During the past years, we have joined others in prayers over the Taiwan earthquake, Gujarat earthquake, and South American flood. During the conflict in Kashmir, we appealed to the Presidents of India, Pakistan, and the Kashmir Premier to labor towards a peaceful solution to the conflict. We also appealed to the president of the USA to desist attack on Iraq. We were represented at the PWR Cape Town, SLC URI-NA Summit, UN- Peace Summit, LA-NAINConnect and Rio Global URI.”

We have often discussed about how to give URI a voice. We always conclude that, because ccs are independent units, there is a lot CCs can do by themselves. Clery for Compassion and Harmony CC shows us the power a CC can have in prayer and decision making.

May members of Clergy for Compassion and Harmony CC fulfill their aspirations and live in Peace!

May Peace prevail in Canada!

May Peace prevail on Earth!
