FIRST REPORT - 19 October, 2005
The URI family sends our prayers to all the people affected by this terrible tragedy. Individual messages and donations are flowing directly to our URI sisters and brothers in Pakistan, Kashmir, and India.
Our relief efforts in Pakistan are led by Fr. James Channan, URI Global Council Trustee and head of the URI Multiple Cooperation Circle (MCC) in
Pakistan. He writes: “I would like to give you the news that response to our Relief Camp in Multan, set up by the URI Pakistan, The Pastoral Institute Multan, Dominican La Salle Parish Multan and Women Disabled Care Multan CC, is overwhelming. We see many Muslims, Christians and Hindus visiting this camp and donating goods such as quilts, sugar, flour, rice, cooking oil and medicine for the victims of this horrific earthquake. Several members of the URI MCC Pakistan such as Sr. Naseem George, Hanif Lal, Lubna Bashir, Mrs. Zuhra Zaidi, and Dr Kishwar Murad have visited this camp and put in their contribution. God bless them and many others who stop by this camp and donate goods and cash.”
Deborah Moldow, Director of The World Peace Prayer Society, let us know that they have put a “Pakistan Earthquake Book of Prayers” on their web site. You are welcome to share your prayers and read those of others by visiting http://www.worldpeace.org or http://www.worldpeace.org/guest/pakistanquake_book.html. We urge everyone to join in the outpouring of help; the needs are great. Many agencies and communities worldwide are providing earthquake relief, here are just a few that have been recommended to us.
