Message from Rev.Charles Gibbs, Executive Director of URI
Like many around the world, we at URI are stunned by the massive loss
of life caused by the earthquake off Sumatra and the tsunami caused.
When we belong to URI, our neighbors live everywhere in the world. We
feel the loss from such a tragedy as we feel the loss of family
members.
So, we invite the members of the URI community and all concerned people
to create a healing tidal wave of prayer and meditation for our sisters
and brothers who are suffering right now. May they be comforted in
their injuries and grief.
May they be safe and have adequate food, clean water, shelter and
medical care. May the lives that have been shattered be healed; may the
communities that have been devastated be rebuilt.
May this tragedy create an outpouring of practical love and support,
and a deeper sense of human solidarity that out of devastation may grow
new life. We urge all who are able to give generously to an
organization they trust. One list of such organizations is at http://www.google.com/tsunami_relief.html.
Also, URI is channeling funds to support the relief work of the
Sarvodaya Shanthi Sena CC in Sri Lanka. If you wish to make a
designated contribution to URI, we will ensure that it goes to support
their extraordinary work.
Thank you.
