It's that time of year again and we are gearing up for this year's National Youth Violence Prevention Week. Over the past month we've been sending out hundreds of thousands of campaign brochures to schools and community groups across the country. Here are some things you can do to get prepared.
-
Review the Action Kit available on the campaign website (www.ViolencePreventionWeek.org). Connect with members of other sponsoring organizations (such as SAVE chapters, school counselors, student councils, social workers, etc.) to work together on planning and participating in the event.
- Request local, state and national representatives to officially recognize the campaign (the Action Kit offers a sample proclamation they can share with their representatives) or reach out to local media to request assistance in promoting the campaign and local youth violence prevention efforts.
- Plan to participate in activities suggested on campaign website. Offer to present or sponsor workshops at a local in-school violence prevention conference. Try to donate their time, talent, energy and resources to help out with events throughout the week.
- Send out e-cards to colleagues to share activity ideas and let everyone know about the campaign. Subscribe to the campaign newsletter to keep up with what's happening with the campaign and all of our sponsors. Visit all of our sponsors' websites to find additional activities and resources for the campaign.
Initiate community roundtables to address youth violence all year!
