NAINConnect 2008 in San Francisco: A Benchmark in Interfaith Dialogue |

A glistening San Francisco cast off its
summer fog for the first three days of NAINConnect
2008 – Embracing Our Interfaith Future, held July 24-28. When the fog
returned on Sunday, old friends and new, and a cacophony of happy conversation
kept us from noticing. Fromm Hall, a lifelong learning center at the University of San Francisco, proved an extraordinary
work space. For assemblies and an initial banquet, a lovely tent replaced the
intended hall that was suffering emergency construction issues.

DIVERSE RELIGIONS ESTABLISH PEACE COUNCIL IN ETHIOPIA
Religions and faith based organizations have a major role to play in promoting a culture of peace, healing and reconciliation A culture of peace and co-existence can be significantly enhanced by inter-religious cooperation.
With this in mind different religious groups in Ethiopia and Interfaith Peace-building Initiative have joined together to heighten their existing peace efforts in promoting a culture of peace and interfaith cooperation in the nation and established National Interfaith Peace Council in Ethiopia.
The Peace Council is established by representatives from Ethiopian Orthodox Church, Ethiopian Islamic Supreme Council, Ethiopian Catholic Church, Ethiopian Evangelical Mekane Yesus Church, the Bahai Faith and Interfaith Peace-building Initiative. On July 24th, 2008 a Memorandum of Understanding was signed by all parties at the office of IPI. It is also agreed by all parties that Interfaith Peace-building Initiative will serve as the coordinator of the newly established Peace council.
The purpose of the Council is to promote a culture of peace, improve interfaith cooperation, and to establish trust and good relationships, and help resolve conflicts in a peaceful way at the national level.
It was through the initiative and efforts of the Interfaith Peace-building Initiative (IPI), which brought the groups together, who have been discussing the establishment of this Council for some months.
Interfaith Peace-building Initiative is a registered NGO in Ethiopia with the aim of promoting interfaith cooperation, ending religiously motivated violence, and creating a culture of peace, justice and healing for the Earth and all living beings. of the World Conference on Religion and Peace. Members of the
Inter-religious Council of Kenya were also present, as well as other invited

URI

for many years. Recently, however, URI obtained its legal registration
with the government of Kenya
for the first time. Therefore, what took place is the introduction of the
newly registered organization, URI Foundation, Kenya to the public. The
main aim of this event was to officially introduce URI Foundation Kenya
to other organizations within the country and the region, to establish
partnerships with other like-minded organizations and individuals. In
addition, the aim was to identify potential supporters for the cause of URI's
