ARRCC is a multi-faith, member-based organization of people from around Australia who are committed to taking action on climate change. They bring together representatives from all the major faith traditions to work together in addressing climate change. ARRCC believes that as people dedicated to the common good, inspired by their beliefs and energized by their spirituality, people of all faiths can and should be at the forefront of creating a safe climate. While celebrating the uniqueness of their different traditions, they stand together in working for an ecologically and socially sustainable future. ARRCC’s mission is twofold: to promote ethical, environmentally sustainable, healthy and contented lifestyles which respect the Earth’s precious natural resources, and to advocate, from a faith perspective, for public policies which contribute to climate justice. They carry out their mission through a number of campaigns and working groups.
ARRCC envisages Australia embracing a sustainable future, one which is based on a more ethical understanding of human prosperity and the flourishing of all. To help create this, ARRCC aspires to influence religious communities of all kinds and all across Australia to actively reflect religious values in the lifestyle choices.
ARRCC organizes multi-faith forums, prayers vigils and advocacy opportunities, as well as encourages people of diverse faiths to shape their lifestyles so that they are more caring towards the limits of the earth. They facilitate advocacy whereby leaders in various faith communities join their voices together to advocate for public policies which would move our nation away from the mining and burning of fossil fuels and towards renewable energy. They advocate for policies which could assist developing countries, e.g. via contributions towards UN Green Climate Fund.
ARRCC is unique in the Australian context, being both multi-faith and focused on climate change as the key issue of concern. We respect each other’s faiths and seek, through the spirit of collaboration, to be a powerful voice advocating for a sustainable future for all.
