It was eventually registered as an organization in 2000 after the Declaration of World Peace in which local religious leaders participated. Currently 18 faiths and denominations are represented on the Council of Religions. Their aim is to foster mutual understanding and enhance interfaith collaboration among faith communities around common social problems. They work on HIV/AIDS de-stigmatization campaign, interfaith advocacy, peacebuilding, capacity building with the University of Mauritius, celebration of UN days, and organize regional conferences on peacebuilding, environment, education, women’s empowerment.
