Teacher Unit Plan 1:
20 Day Unit
Day one:
Introduce website. Begin scavenger hunt on major religions.
Day two:
Continue scavenger hunt on major
religions. Homework is to continue work on scavenger hunt.
Day three:
Complete scavenger hunt.
Introduce idea of shrine and individual meditation. Assign kids to bring in
something for the shrine and reflect in journals about why they chose it.
Day four:
Scavenger hunt due. First day of meditation. Kids can share new things they
learned from the scavenger hunt. Answer questions that came up. Begin reading
"The Story of Religion."
Day five:
Meditation. Do scripture comparison on peace. Homework is to do scripture
comparison on creation stories.
Day six:
Meditation. Continue reading "The Story of Religion." Introduce interview
assignment and practice interviewing each other. Homework is to begin interview
paper.
Day seven:
Meditation. Do song reflection on "One of Us." Homework is to work on interview.
Day eight:
Meditation. Do brief scavenger hunt on
minor religions. Homework is to complete interview paper.
Day nine:
Meditation. Interview paper due. Have students read a favorite passage to the
class. Continue reading "The Story of Religion." Introduce visual comparison
scrapbook page- you could use minor or major religions. Assign categories to
students.
Day ten:
Meditation. Finish reading "The Story of
Religion." Begin work on scrapbook page.
Day eleven:
Meditation. Work on scrapbook page. Homework is to finish page.
Day twelve:
Meditation. Scrapbook page due. Introduce mini-research project.
Day thirteen:
Meditation. Do research for project. Homework is to work on mini-research.
Day fourteen:
Meditation. Speaker or field trip.
Day fifteen:
Meditation. Mini-research project due. Share favorite passages with the class.
Do a word game or two.
Day sixteen:
Meditation. Do scripture comparison on the Golden Rule. Homework is reflection
and thoughts on that study.
Day seventeen:
Meditation. Do song reflection on "Ain't
Gonna Study War No More." Introduce "create your own religion." Homework is to
begin work on that paper.
Day eighteen:
Meditation. Speaker or field trip. Finish "create your own religion."
Day nineteen:
Meditation. Share papers in class. Reflection on field trip or speaker.
Day twenty:
Extended meditation. Reflections and endings.
