The refugee plight knows no borders
The UN counts nearly 5 million Palestinian refugees, and Tareq Altamimi, a Palestinian youth leader, counts millions more. So when he was asked to lead a workshop on Refugee Realities in Belgrade, Serbia, he jumped at the opportunity to learn more about the plight of refugees in another land.

Interfaith school chips away at illiteracy and intolerance in Pakistan
“We are creating religious harmony and peace through education in a slum where there was no concept of education,” said Yuel Bhatti, a founder of ABC4All Pakistan Cooperation Circle and school principal. “We are trying hard to motivate the community that education is the only way towards peace and love for humanity.”

New Member Spotlight: A Community Investment
A new Cooperation Circle from rural Western Kenya was welcomed into the URI community in February 2011. Indigenous, Seventh Day Adventists, Catholics, Muslims and Protestants, the members of Prolife Interfaith Kenya CC are working together “to socially and economically empower the youth and the whole of society” regardless of religion, race or creed. New Member Spotlight: URI in Bulgaria
Bulgarian activist Petar Gramatikov first learned about URI at a World Council of Churches conference in Geneva, where he met URI Youth Director Sarah Talcott. After attending URI-Europe’s regional assembly in Istanbul in October 2010, he was determined to bring URI to Bulgaria, a mostly Orthodox Christian nation with a checkered history of tolerance for its minority religious and ethnic populations. He returned home to Plovdiv—a town of 400,000 that became famous for helping save Bulgaria’s Jews from Hitler during World War II—and introduced the URI idea to several of the organizations he works with.
