H.E. Kofi Annan

Greetings of peace and blessing from URI-Africa.

This is to share with you the Press Release URI-Africa sent out in Africa and to the African Union on the death of H.E. Mr. Kofi Annan, former Secretary General of the United Nations and Nobel Peace Laureate.

URI-Africa came to learn with the deepest shock and immense sadness the death of H.E. Mr. Kofi Annan, former Secretary General of the United Nations and Nobel Peace Laureate.

URI-Africa joins the world in mourning the loss of one of the greatest diplomat, peacemaker, and global leader of our time. He was a great supporter of interfaith dialogue and an embodiment of the teaching of the Golden Rule, which says, "Treat others the way you want to be treated."

During his peace mission and meetings at the African Union Heads of States Summit held in Addis Ababa, Mr. Annan met with a representative of URI at the African Union and expressed his support and encouragement to the work of URI in preventing violent extremism, overcoming hate speech and promoting a culture of peace and inter-religious and Inter-cultural harmony in Africa and the rest of the world.

URI-Africa admired the wisdom, courage and ability of Mr. Annan to make balanced decisions even in the most complicated and critical situations.

Mr. Annan was indeed a global statesman and a deeply committed person and man of action for human dignity, social justice, environmental protection, human rights, the empowerment of women and youth, the role of religions in peacebuilding, and equal opportunity for all. His legacy as a global champion for peace and better word will remain a true inspiration for this generations and generations yet to come.

URI-Africa prays for the Almighty God to grant his family, relatives and friends the strength and grace to bear the loss.

May his soul rest in peace.

May Peace Prevail on Earth.
