Live footage of the event will stream from 3 PM to 6:30 PM (check local time) on 26 June 2010.
On June 26, 2000, URI’s Charter was signed at a global ceremony in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, as well as in cities and towns around the world. On that day, these words, which speak with the voices of thousands of URI founders, became a living reality:
"We, people of diverse religions, spiritual expressions and Indigenous traditions throughout the world, hereby establish the United Religions Initiative to promote enduring, daily interfaith cooperation, to end religiously motivated violence and to create cultures of peace, justice and healing for the Earth and all living beings."
In 10 years, URI has grown from 83 founding Cooperation Circles in 30 countries to 476 CCs in 75 countries. As a dedicated global community of change-makers, we are working everyday to mediate religiously motivated conflict; build schools, orphanages and health clinics; campaign for citizenship rights and more. Our work is touching the lives of over 1.5 million people every year.
In thousands of ways, URI is opening hearts and minds...and our scope and impact keep growing.
