Our purpose is to foster healing through music, art, and culture; to create a communal platform for cross-cultural dialogue; to develop understanding among traditions and to aim for a peaceful, blissful community.
Ektaan was formed to promote peace through music. Since 1991, musicians from different faith traditions have congregated for this purpose. One of our major programs is Journey of Peace, an ongoing Ektaan project aimed at nurturing and preserving traditional harmonious festivals in rural communities in India. We also hold interfaith, intercultural music performances, record and publish CDs, and promote local musicians and artists.
One of the stories that best reflects the impact of our work occurred in Burnpur, West Bengal. There, a group of inter-caste, interreligious musicians performed in mosques and temples- an event that had never before occurred. The tension between Hindus and Muslims runs high, particularly at festival time, but music brought them together.
We also have a computer educational program through which we teach young people in areas where there are no opportunities to learn computer literacy. Many of our students go on to teach computer skills to other youth in the community.

Namaste and greetings of peace from India. Here are some pictures of another computer center which opened a few weeks ago with the help of the members from the local Mosque. This is the first time in the area that a computer training program has been run by URI inside the Mosque premises. URI member Md. Sarfaraz oversees the project. We expect to run a complete educational program and engage the larger community, especially targeting children from different communities to attend classes at the center. This will allow children from other communities to an opportunity to attend the Mosque and become familiar with other religions through engagement and open interaction with other children. This initiative had been planned for a long time. So it’s now being born, we are moving forward with much concrete steps to develop the plan further for greater impact.
