Dear Friends,

Namaste and hope this note finds you well. Here I am attaching three pictures from India east regional recent development in the state of Jharkhand. It's a very high-alert Maoist active state and in addition to that various tribal issues along with environmental degradation by the nature extracting industries make for a complex situation where violence in various levels are often flared.

In the first picture, Ranchi Peace Circle organized a gathering at the site to pay tribute and remember the sacrifice of eight social activists who were killed by the state police on February 2, 2011 when they were protesting against the proposed Koel-Kearo Dam, a NHPC project of hydro electricity. Thousand of families were protesting to save their villages and the natural resources in peaceful way but the state police fired, killing eight precious lives that were demanding for justice. Tapkara ( the proposed site) is a block of Khunti district of Jharkhand. People resistance forced the company and the
government to withdraw the proposed project; it's a continuous movement to save thousand hector of forest land and hundreds of villages. The affected people mostly belong to Adivasi ( tribal) community.

The two other pictures are from an ongoing protest camp by Ranchi Peace Circle, demanding justice against the arrest of Dr. Vinayak Sen, true social activist serving the tribaland untouchable communities to fulfill the medical needs and other social developments. Dr. Sen was accused of helping the Maoists and was arrested and now behind bars. Thousands of children and families are now without a medical doctor, raising their voices along with many other renowned activists in the country including Swami Agnivesh Ji.

The hope is that more and more people will join hands together and raise their voices for justice, and sooner we will have justice.

A great salute to all the members of URI , making a true different in the world.

Namaste
