Dear URI friends, today marks 50 years since Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous ‘I Have a Dream’ speech.

King spoke of ideals about equality among people of all races, creeds, and cultures. This day, 50 years later, is a moment to praise and cherish these ideals even though these ideals have been lived into so imperfectly and too slowly.

URI is nourished by ideals expressed in its Preamble, Purpose and Principles.  Ideals that we, people of different religions, spiritual expressions, and indigenous traditions, can and will unite and cooperate to create cultures of peace and heal the world in myriad ways. When we see and experience the imperfections, the painful gaps between reality and our ideals, it is the precise time to embrace these ideals in our hearts and share them with others in our community - for sustenance.

Today is a good day to take out URI’s PPP, find ideals that light your dreams, illuminate your daily work, and share them.

Blessings for an especially good day,
