“The mountains are fingers pointing to the heavens.  The towering peaks are Nature's cathedrals, elevating the human spirit towards the divine. Steadfast and majestic in their bedrock foundation unmoved by the buffeting winds of ages, they reach into the infinite sky and lift us from our mortal grounding towards the heights of transcendence.  When we climb to the mountain top, we stand on an exposed meridian sensor of the planet in exquisite interplay with the universe. In this vital vortex we come into communion with who we really are. We are inspired by the splendor of nature, exalted by the grace of our place within the cosmic design, humbled and awed by the immense magnificence of creation. The vitality and exertion of the climb is the human effort to raise ourselves up to our divine potential, to strive to be at peace and as one with ourselves and our world.  In the end, the mountain we seek to climb is ourselves.”

Stephen Longfellow Fiske, Peace activist, musician, author, Interfaith Minister – and mountaineer
