The Sept. 21 event at the Garden Mosque in Taguig City (above) brought together 500 worshippers whose single, sincere request was for peace to prevail in and dominate the world.  A simple meal followed the Friday afternoon prayers.

The celebration was attended by many religious and community leaders, including Garden Mosque Grand Imam Ustaj Ahmad; civic leader and former Administrator of the Blue Mosque Haji Eshmael Diampuan; former director of the Office on Muslim Affairs Haji Abdullah Camlian; Haji Usman Muharani (businessman and community leader); former Blue Mosque administrator Haji Jed Hadijin; Grand Imam of the Blue Mosque Prof. Abdulrafi Sayedy; Garden Mosque Association President Ret. Col. Gardan Ali; community leader Datu Haji Panny Ali; community leader Haji Hamsiraji Sabaddin; Garden Mosque Administrator PO2 Asmad Badlis; Mr. Omar and Haji Muhammad.

The event was organized by URI Regional Coordinator Dr. Potre Dirampatan Diampuan in cooperation with Garden Mosque administrators and other local leaders. It was held in conjunction with the International Day of Peace, an annual event celebrated by the United Nations and people throughout the world as a day of global ceasefire and nonviolence.

The theme of this year’s Peace Day was “Sustainable Peace for a Sustainable Future,” in keeping with the recent United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  More information about URI’s celebration of the International Day of Peace is available at uri.org.
