UN Event Will Promote Peace, Religious Diversity

24 January 2013

The event, held at the United Nations headquarters in New York, will include an address by UN General Assembly President Vuk Jeremic, as well as religious leaders, state representatives and dignitaries from many nations.  Participants will also join in the Symphony of Peace Prayers and listen to music provided by the United Nations Singers and the United Nations International School.

The special event will close with a World Peace Flag ceremony, in which the flags of all the UN member nations will circle the floor of the General Assembly while audience members declare “May Peace Prevail on Earth.”

In presenting the event, President Jeremic will work closely with members of the Committee of Religious Nongovernmental Organizations at the United Nations (including Committee President Monica Willard, URI’s representative at the United Nations and Committee Vice President Deborah Moldow, facilitator of the URI-UN Cooperation Circle), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and representatives of UN member states.

The event will be webcast live and archived on the United Nations Web site.  Those who wish to take part in the event may register by Feb. 7 at www.unitedforacultureofpeace.info
