Dear Friends and my beloved Colleagues,

Greetings of peace from India and I hope this note finds you well, especially with rejuvenating Yoga on the International Yoga Day, you all are being well charged now. URI Bangladesh is taking steps forward to reach out deeper in each district with greater force and is extending the team to bring greater impact.

Through a two-day meeting with the core URI team, we were able to map out our yearly programs. We addressed how to cope with challenges, especially in promoting interfaith cooperation despite the current political and religious situation - as many of you may be hearing the news on recent violence in Bangladesh, which has drawn international attention. At the same time I was very much inspired by seeing many young students coming forward to promote interfaith relations. As a conflict transformation organization, we are very hopeful to harness these young talent in promoting interfaith values.

In the presence of Dr. Kazi Nurul Islam, Global Trustee and President of URI Bangladesh, Dr. Abdul Hye, Prof. Nusrat Sultana, and many others as well as new members, attended the meeting and the following plan of actions was proposed:

  • In three years by 2018, URI Bangladesh would reach all its 64 districts, possibly having at least one Cooperation Circle (CC) in each district of Bangladesh.
  • On 25th November 2015, in accordance to URI India National assembly, URI Bangladesh will host a first-time CC gathering with all CCs.
  • Presently, there are 12 CCs. Special efforts would be given to bring a minimum of 13 new CCs before November 2015. Now five applications are already under regional process before they goes to the CC approval committee next month.

Dr. Abdul Hye has offered himself to serve as a local URI representative to the CCs linking to the Regional Coordinator. After the meeting on the second day, few students among many were given certificates of a diploma in conflict management that they have completed, organized by URI Bangladesh. I was very pleased and honored to hand over those certificates to them.

Namaste,

Biswadeb Chakraborty, Regional Coordinator, India, East Zone
