Reducing Violence Through Community Action – Nigeria

In Nigeria, URI’s targeted training program is reducing violence in one of the country's most vulnerable areas—Jos. Combining public health strategies and religious teachings, URI equipped religious leaders, police officers, educators, and local officials with essential violence-prevention techniques.

Since the program began in November 2023:

• Over 220 local leaders have received training and created community-specific action plans for mediation, engagement, and violence reduction.
   
• These initiatives led to a measurable 15% decrease in violent incidents and a 32% increase in addressed violence cases within target communities.
   
• Currently, 13 URI Cooperation Circles and 8 partner organizations are actively collaborating, with trained religious leaders influencing over 1.5 million people.
