National Inter-Religious Network (NIRN)-Nepal is an interfaith organization established with District Administration Office, Lalitpur in December of 2008 with representation from Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, Kirant, Jain, Sikh, Bahai, Bon and other religious minorities. National Inter-Religious Network (NIRN)-Nepal was established in 2008 with an aim to bring together leaders from all religious groups (Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, Kirant, Jainism, Bahai, Bon) and other religious minorities in Nepal to actively bring faith in action against harmful traditional practices such as child marriage, dowry practice, Chhaupadi, child abuse, sexual violence and other forms of gender-based violence in society. Religious scriptures of different faiths put a very high importance on gender equality but practices like child marriage, GBV, dowry practice and many other forms of HTPs are still practiced and propagated in the name of religion. These prevalent practices call for innovate approaches to address the gendered practices of individuals and the large social system that help amplify violence in many ways. Religious leaders have a tremendous influence in the society and their views and opinions are often heard, respected and followed. As such, NIRN Nepal has provided a platform for religious communities to reduce HTPs and promote gender equality by exploring different faith responses. As of now, the organization has expanded in over 30 districts in Nepal.
