Sunflower Film Organization (SFO) has been officially registered at the Ministry of Interior as a non-profit organization since 13 March 2019, according to the notice 1398 Pr.K. Its affiliate youth collective, Sunflower Film Alliance (SFA) gathers volunteer members, across Cambodia, with film interest and skills, aged between 15 and 40. SFA is mandated to annually renew membership and leadership for greater youth empowerment and produce short films that matter to Cambodian youth.
The leadership opportunities provided to local youth by SFA are reflected through Chaktomuk Short Film Festival (CSFF), founded since 2012. CSFF showcases emerging filmmakers’ creative works without heavy investment to the mass. Its impact is known to celebrate the culture of short films, in Cambodia for Cambodian youth who love films, to showcase their works, to gain more knowledge about the film industry, and to bridge them with this sector for its improvement and expansion in the future and also for international markets.
SFO, in turn, has implemented since 2019, among others, Let’s Document Cambodia, to equip provincial and indigenous youths in documenting their communities.
As a long-time pro-peace advocate, SFO’s ambition is to build a more robust and instrumental film eco-system in Cambodia and Asia-Pacific region, by adding values to its provincial and indigenous allies with further technical film training. Monetization, through Sunflower Media’s services will be an essential part of the next activities as to support SFO and its projects’ operations, while providing more resources and growth opportunities to its members, affiliates and young filmmakers in general.
