URI Groups Host Park Cleanup in Jordan for Environment Day

7 June 2021

In honor of Environment Day, URI members in Jordan made the most of their connections within the URI network and hosted a cooperative park cleanup effort. Their work allowed more people to appreciate being in nature without dealing with garbage, and will enable a cleaner and more beautiful park experience for the community going forward, as well.

The URI Office in Jordan, in cooperation with Desert Bloom (a URI member group) conducted a cleaning activity of Zay Forest, a public park, on June 5th, 2021. Fifteen members from Desert Bloom, Seeds of Peace and Mercy (two other URI member groups) took part in this activity. We involved some members of the local community in the cleaning efforts.

We prepared three paintings for this activity to raise public awareness about the importance of environmental protection. We placed them in a visible place on the main gate of the park. In addition, we managed to meet with the local municipality staff and share our thoughts and suggestions with them. They will consider our suggestion to add two garbage containers to the site.

"This is our moment. We cannot turn back time. But we can grow trees, green our cities, rewild our gardens, change our diets and clean up rivers and coasts. We are the generation that can make peace with nature. Let’s get active, not anxious. Let’s be bold, not timid."
