A dream ignited in 1995!
In honor of the UN’s 50th anniversary, The Rt. Rev. Bill Swing was invited to host an interfaith service at Grace Cathedral. This prompted him to ask,
“If the nations of the world are working together for peace through the UN, then what are the world’s religions doing?” Bishop Bill Swing, Founder and President Emeritus of URI
25 years later, over 1200 Cooperation Circles and Individual members around the world are committed to promoting peace, justice, and healing.It has been 25 transformative years of URI, dedicated to collective effort fostering peace, justice, and healing in communities around the world.
Since our founding, we have been guided by a strong belief in the power of compassion and collaboration to create lasting change. With over 1,200 Cooperation Circles globally, we work closely with grassroots communities to encourage ongoing interfaith cooperation, end violence motivated by religion, and promote cultures of peace, justice, and healing for the Earth and all living beings.
Over the past 25 years, we have developed programs, such as the health approach to violence prevention training, to help local communities tackle the root causes of religiously motivated violence and all forms of violence.
In 2023, we launched a global campaign to end hate speech, supported the voices and actions of indigenous communities, promoted the protection and sustainability of Mother Earth, and engaged young people through carefully designed training and initiatives.
Our journey has been filled with countless stories of resilience, hope, and triumph as we have collaborated with diverse groups to foster understanding, reconciliation, and social harmony.
As we reflect on our achievements, we also look forward to the future, inspired by the ongoing commitment of our supporters and the communities we serve.
Together, we will continue to advocate for justice, nurture healing, and cultivate peace, ensuring that the next 25 years are filled with even greater impact and positive change.
